^ Wow, Tom...All the way through school?

I was between the popular kids and the nerds, with friends from both camps. Although I probably went more toward the popular crowd during the time I was a cheerleader. My high school was/is in a very wealthy area, and there were sororities. Rush parties, the whole bit. It turned me off, though, so I didn't join. It was also important to wear the right clothes, which I guess is still true.

 

Thankfully, for the most part, we didn't have to deal with clothing aspect.

We wore the clothing of Legal Bill's fantasies Little plaid pleated skirts, gray blazers and knee socks.

Of course the skirts were supposed to be at knee length, but we worked around that one.

Even with the uniforms, and the fact that many of us were from families with little or no money, you could still tell those that were a bit more fortunate. They had the right coats, jackets, shoes, etc. And they were the families who actually went on vacation, vs a day at the local amusement park. Most of us at the school fit in, though not always comfortably. High school is not an easy time in a teenager's life.

A bit off topic. It's kind of funny, for the most part, we knew that most of that kind of thing (vacations, ski trips, etc.) was just not going to happen for us at that point in our lives. Today's kids/young folks don't seem to understand "I/we can't afford it" and they break out the charge cards.

 

Yeah, all throughout the school years. I guess looking back on it, brutal would be a good adjective. To talk about it would take a very long quiet evening with a lot of good bourbon.

It's hard to believe I know, but I was tossed out of school almost more often than the trash. It got to a point where the vice prinicipal wouldn't bother wasting his breath on me. He'd just shake his head and say, "See you in [x] days" and wave as I headed out the door.

 

voted class clown and Mr Mod.. mod was a form of music for those a bit older and younger. I enjoyed my school years. In a grew up in a fairly small town for Jersey (Lodi) and went to school with the same classmates from K-12. We just had our 20 year reunion, but I could not make it. Our class is forming a "Look who's 40" reunion in 2 years when we all turn 40 I'll be sure to make that one.
