5 days to go until the recall election and I don't know who to vote for. I have it narrowed down by party but as usual, I don't really like anybody 100%. The legistlature is demoractic controlled therefore, it doesn't really matter if a Republican gets in. All he or she would be is a check and balance. That's ok with me. It doesn't really matter anyway because I'm gone! Yes Mr. Cruz Bustamonte is very popular and given the majority thinking in California, he is probably the logical person to win. Arnold is in second place but it'll take him a year to learn the ropes. McClintock is the logical Republican to choose but he is trailing Arnold. McClintock says unpopular things that would scare most politicians. Like "don't spend money you don't have and lets cut waste instead of raising taxes. It's not a money issue, it's a management issue." What a concept! He's too honest and doesn't appoligize for it. So what to do? I think I'll vote for that little guy "What you talkin 'bout Willis?" I'll probably be tossing my vote anyway. Maybe that porn star gal. It's a circus!

Hey I was born there! Not a Californicator! It's a mute subject because the gal friend said Arizona is out of the question. She won't consider Arizona at all and she's the boss!

I saved my pennies back mid 80s and spent a winter in Warm Springs, other side of the mountain from Ketchum. A drought year, aargh.
I can't tell you how many times I heard people say, "I moved here for the winters but I stayed for summers." It's a beautiful, energetic area. Always lots of sporting things to participate in. However, seemed like everyone I talked to who lived there and was working, were barely making ends meet. Lots of dentists in town they said.
I didn't find it snooty at all. A couple of unlikely meeting spots were the library and the post office. The library had big leather chairs and a roaring fireplace. I joined the tennis club in Hailey and mingled with the folks a bit more well to do than I, friendly all. Of course it wasn't that exclusive since I got to join.
I had a great three months then had to return to my reality. I'd head back in a moment but for maximum enjoyment it'd be nice to have a big wad of cash to begin with.

Gary: Don't get me wrong. I like the area a lot but it is expensive and similar to my area here in California in the high cost of property. However, there aren't as many amenities as my area has. Maybe I was there in a bad time. People seemed grumpy and inpatient. There didn't seem to be a reason for it. Traffic wasn't bad and it wasn't rush hour or anything but it didn't seem too friendly while I was there. Maybe they were just sick of tourist. I can relate to that. I'm sure it's fine but not a step up or sideways for me. Maybe a slight step up. Actually it is better than here because there is less traffic. Lower density. OK I have to admit it. It's the cold!!!!!!!!!!! And two grumpy drivers. Still a very nice place.

I love the hills of western PA, the new Pittsburgh PA, the beaches of Myrtle Beach, the bright lights and good times of Paris, France, the switch-back roads of WV, the small-mouth bass in-land fishing lakes of northern MI, the idea of being reasonably close to the grandchildren, being relatively close to Watkins Glen, Road America, and Mid-Ohio - three of my favorite tracks, I love the four seasons... even winter, the clean towns of Canada, being near the Great Lakes, and being near friends, and living in a small town - so when it's time to retire (already did) I think I'll stay right where I'm at.

When you are driving up to Idaho, stop by Southern Oregon (it was mentioned in an earlier post). I have lived here all my life and love it. I also have traveled around most of the US (I still want to make to New Orleans), and wouldn't leave here for anything. Weather is great, four seasons, but quite mild in the winters (we rarely get snow on the valley floor). Close to ski mountain, I can make it on the slopes in 30 minutes from my house, great fishing close by, small but not too small. Plus we have some great roads to drive. Take a spirited drive up the Greensprings for breakfast, about 20 miles one way and I don't know how many corners, great way to get your morning going. You can still get a nice home for a reasonable price, as long as you don't move to Ashland. Good cultural events, Oregon Shakespeare Theatre, Britt Music Festival.

Oregon sounds really nice. All my life I've wanted to get out there, and had plans to drive the S2000 to a (heaven forbide) national MGA meet they had in Welches in July. But, the plans fell though and once again I missed an OR trip. It's still on my ta-do list.
