Good stuff about Space travel as well.

USC vs Utah State in the Coliseum. Home opener. Unfortunately, it's well over 100° today. This seems to happen for every first home game. Fortunately, kickoff is 8:00. Several hours of tailgating in the heat.

I might be led to question if it is responsible to have a football in those temps.

Too many players die each year due to heat exhaustion, I never hear of players dying from freezing temps, but I did play football in snowy conditions when I was young and my damn feet felt frozen .

It is more of an issue in high school and little leagues, maybe come college leagues, mainly where coaches aren't smart enough to know better and rule with an iron fist forcing kids to practice and play in extreme heat conditions. It almost always happens pre-season as teams practice and have try-outs end of summer ahead of season games. It is a huge issue and kids are still dying each year for no reason as it can be prevented.

^That makes sense.

Today I'm going to my son and daughter-in-laws for the birthday celebration of their one-year old son. The older son will be three on October 26th. That day is the same day my mom and my mom's dad were born.

Today is my niece’s birthday. She is in FL seeing my BIL (her stepfather) to commemorate the one year anniversary of my sister’s passing on Tues. Still miss sharing things only sisters can share.

Up until I was 10 years old we used to play Saturday morning rugby in bare feet no matter the weather, because there was always the danger of young kids getting spiked in rucks and mauls (basically all-in melees in a pile of players on the ground). Whoever won the toss would generally try to defend the end of the field that was still covered in frost, in the hopes the sun would be high enough to thaw it before the second half. Kids would be crying by half time because they couldn't feel their feet.

These days they let the kids play in sneakers until they're old enough for sprigs/spikes. We're getting pretty soft these days.

We lived in Nashua, NH for about 6 months when I was in the third grade. ( mid 60's)
At recess the boys would play a game called... KILL I sh^t you not.
All of the boys , save one, ( around 100, grades 1-6) would line up on one edge of the field.
The hoard would run from one side to the other attempting to avoid tackle.
The 'one' would have the job of tackling all of the remaining players.
Any players tackled, would then become tacklers themselves. The first player tackled would become the one in the next round of the game.
The last player standing would win. and the game would progress to the next round.
This was played at every recess. Basically we would run wind sprints for the 15 minute recess.

It did help with ADHD I think. It was inclusive, everyone HAD to play.
