Wonder if you both caught a virus like I did after traveling. Was thinking maybe we still need to continue to mask up while traveling.

This weekend I am spending my time washing clothes and packing as next week I expect to be on a beach near Lavrion, Greece. Our long (well not that long) awaited family trip to Greece will kick off Thursday with some long flights to Athens. The house is booked, the cars are reserved and the flights are all set. Everyone is excited as this is the first time in a long time that my entire family will be together. I only wish Patty was here to enjoy it with me.

The next four days are going just drag on in anticipation.

Well, since you asked...

When compressed (I use a walk-behind plate compactor), crushed lime packs down to a very solid state, and supports the plastic pipe on all sides to handle the high loads. This photo was taken part-way through the process of filling the trench up to just below ground level, and I'll lay a little topsoil over top to finish it off.

The plastic pipe is great to work with because it's light weight (I can easily carry a 16in diameter, 20ft long pipe by myself) and flexes to distribute any point loads to the surrounding fill, hence the need to ensure suitable compaction of the lime. These pipes are maybe 90lb each, whereas two concrete culvert pipes to cover the same area would be over 1500lb. You can also bend plastic pipes slightly without compromising integrity, which is good for this application as I joined three together to give me a continuous 60ft underground pipe crossing two gateways and then squeezing through a 3ft gap between two posts, in a very gentle S-shape.

I have two days off coming up to carry on with this part of the project, which by the end will have eliminated one of the biggest mud patches on the property and enable us to actually get equipment between two paddocks over Winter/Spring without needing a support vehicle on standby for towing duties.

I can talk drainage all day, from the perspective of an enthusiastic amateur/hopefully reasonable installer. I love my not-my-job.

Very interesting. I was referring to the use of lime for a not so innocent reason.

I've been flying back and forth between Denver and Orange County, CA for 7 years. I don't get sick. You can always wear a mask if you choose to but I'm really glad I don't have to. My California neighbor always wears a mask in airports and on flights as she tends to get sick if she doesn't.

Made it out to a 2 day autocross this weekend. Had a blast there as it has been 1.5 years since I autocrossed as I have spent most of that time at track events. Good to get back out for some autox and hang out with folks there.

This upcoming weekend is all fathers day stuff

This coming weekend we travel to Lincoln, New Hampshire, for an adventure up in the White Mountains. I'm looking forward to it. If the weather holds, we plan to go on a lot of great drives. It's going to be toasty. Current forecasts are for hot weather. Except for the time frame while we are up on Mount Washington. There it will likely be quite cold. And windy. And possibly foggy. Or possibly clear as a bell and we might be able to see for miles and miles. We'll just have to find out. Cog rail runs rain or shine, so up we go!

Think I'll pack a rain poncho just in case.

Oh, who am I kidding? I pack a rain poncho regardless. A poncho can serve many purposes including keeping the rain off of one's self.

Kind of like a towel. Never be caught without your towel.

I'm flying to CA tomorrow (Tuesday). My honey, Michael, is flying in to CA on Thursday so the plan is to pick him up at SNA and continue on, driving 221 miles to my 5th wheel in Kennedy Meadows KM.

The Kubota diesel generator was removed and repaired and the man, Gary, also repaired the well pump with a new fuse and capacitor. This will be Michael's first trip there and the first one I've made in about a year, with the generator and well pump working.

My last trip up I had planned to cut up the old queen mattress and put in a new one I took up. Mouse turds kept me from setting up the new one. I'll have to see what is there this trip. At least with the generator working I'll be able to vacuum turds instead of sweeping them.

It's goin to be in the 80's which is a tad toasty with no AC but at least it's usually breezy and into the 50s at night.

^6-30-2023. Trailer bathroom.

^10-22-2022.

These are the notes I made on the generator and well pump problem. I think I was correct that it was the well pump that caused the problems. What do you think, based on these notes?

(1) 4-14-2023. The well head water pump won't turn on.

(2) 5-21-2023. Philip Berry came up and got the well pump working on his generator. Texted video of it pumping water. ($500)

(3) 6-29-2023. I went up and turned the generator on and then the well head pump and started filling the big water storage tank. I walked back down to the trailer with it all working.

(4) 6-29-2023. I walked back from the 5th wheel to the generator to turn off the well head pump and the generator, but nothing was on. I kept trying to start the generator and it did start but shut off within 7 seconds.

(5) 8-26-2023. I met Jim John's at the generator and he worked on it, changing the oil, filters and petcock. ($350) He couldn't get it to stay running. He suspects the voltage regulator is bad. He has offered to get a new one to put in.

(6) 9-19-2023. I could go for the new voltage regulator but now am wondering if it will just get blown/fried. If there's a problem with the well head pump that should be handled first.

*****************************************

(7) 5-15-2024. ($5,745) Generator removed and taken to Ridgecrest. Generator repaired and reinstalled by Gary Potts, Prognagthas Engineering. Well pump doesn't work, still on 5-20-2024 when he returned.

(8) 5-28-2024. Gary went back up and got the well pump working. ($589.72)

Total $7,184. It better all work!
