What plans do you have for the coming Weekend ?

I know in my years of visiting Tennessee everyone would say black bears are less dangerous, but I always avoided hiking there due to the shear numbers of bears in the region, but many people do it. One thing I never want to meet is a bear, black , brown, white, any colour, no way. I feel for them as their habit is invaded and I never want to see them put down.

Finally got out last weekend. Saturday afternoon we went over to Blues in the Bay, a new blues fest over in Bay St. Louis. It was a nice setting under oaks and palm trees with ideal weather. We stayed for two bands out of New Orleans and enjoyed them both. Then it was home for a light dinner and on to Dreamer's Lounge for a homecoming show by one of our favorite local-ish bands, Rougarous, from Ocean Springs. (The rougarou (or loup-garou) is a monster from Cajun folklore.) We only stayed for about 45 minutes but it was great to be out and about again after a month and a half of the hermit life.

Patty I don’t have any other pictures. It’s been foggy and hazy and I’ve been here many times before, so nothing I want to shoot. Everything is green, the snow is barely melted, plus the grass the bear is on is part of the complex and they keep it green all year round.
I’m glad I didn’t meet this dude on my walk the day before.

Bear meat is good. You shoot them in the Fall when they're fat before hibernation. Bears are easy to bait. We used a canvas bag filled with old bakery donuts & rolls. We covered it all in bacon grease. We'd hang it from a tree and let it drip. You could tell the size of the bear by the height of the claw marks on the tree. A can of salmon pierced and hung up works too. Go out right before sunset and wait. Last bear I shot weighed out almost 400# field dressed. Shot it with a 44mag pistol. That was a long time ago.

After seeing what they eat out of dumpsters I don’t think I want any bear meat.

It was maybe 75'. 1 shot with A Thompson Contender. I still have the claws around here somewhere.
