Our soils engineer was a world leader in soils engineering and had written a couple of university level text books on the subject. His name was Antal Partos. When our surcharge period had ended and the pile had been scrapped away, his contract provided for his final field test. I nearly went into shock over this. He came to the site, stepped down into the slightly lower grade, touched the soils and took a small bit an put it into his mouth for a taste. He spit it out, looked at me and said that the job was "complete". I will never forget Antal. What a character.
This was a mudslide right behind my house.

On to weekend photos. My honey flew in to Orange County yesterday and I showed him The Montage Resort ocean area. As a native Coloradan, he was impressed. This morning we're going to Cars and Coffee in San Clemente. He will be impressed, again, with all the fancy cars in one place.

Had a little Ian damage on one of my fence gates so I redesigned it. Concrete is setting now on an offset post. Tomorrow I'll install a cantilevered gate. Never did that before. Hope it works.

In celebration I've made a Bloody Mary and am contemplating dinner. I have a bunch of Morels so it's Filet Mignon with a Morel sauce on the Kamado with charred asparagus.

This was the final touch on Ian recovery. Now it's a lazy weekend.
Cheers

What is your marinade? I use low salt soy sauce, Rainwater Maderia and chopped garlic. Marinate for 4 hours and let them age in the air for 1.

The last two steaks I did I used Lee Kum Lee soy sauce and garlic and pepper and onions and a little butter coated on the filet. I decide to do it differently this time I used Italian dressing, onions, pepper and garlic.

Our moving date is rapidly approaching. I would say 95% of all belongings are packed in boxes and totes and most of it is stacked in our garage. This weekend we will move some additional furniture into the garage and get down to living on bare minimum furniture for the next little while. Little adjustments as one gets closer to moving dates.

Pleasant weekend.
We did hang out with my sister and brother in law last night, along with a long time friend of theirs. We've met him before. Very pleasant man/company

Today I hit the gym and was restless after lunch. It wasn't all that nice out. Breezy, mostly cloudy, low 40's. Not Rick's kind of outdoor weather. So I was on my own. I had something of my cousin's to return to her. She lives in Portsmouth, RI. A nice little ride. I picked up one of my Y friends on the way. We stopped to see if the RI screech owl was hanging out, but he was a no show. We dropped off the item at my cousins house, and then headed towards the water. Parked and got a good walk in right near the water. With gloves and heavy coats were were comfortable. The fresh air felt good. The area is really quiet this time of year. No real fancy houses in this area, but I'd bet those small houses close to the water still sell for $$$

On the way back to the car we decided to stop in a local place. Had an afternoon snack of a Margherita flat bread, very tasty. Back on the diet tomorrow!
