Happy Birthday, Robb!
I have a little project this weekend. I need to spend time looking at photos submitted for a contest. The local land preserve organization has many properties open to the public. One of them is where I spend a lot of my time with my camera. Anyway, there are photographers of many levels who share photos taken at their properties, myself included. Hawks, egrets, foxes, eagles and the like. They asked a few of us to judge photos for a contest they are having. I was flattered to be asked. I'm no expert to be sure, but I'm trying to look at composition, framing, etc. I got the email with 54 photos. Some I could quickly dismiss, then I narrowed it down to 19, now about 10, and I have to select my top 5, and there are some fantastic photos. Tough choice. Many of the shots, I wish I would have taken. I've yet to encounter the otter, or the fox or some of the other critters in the photos.
There are four of us selecting our top five then those with the most votes will be posted for the final selection on their web site. One of the judges suggested and we all agreed that we preferred the contest not end up being a popularity contest, as many photo contests end up that way. So there are no names of photographers being provided to us or to those who get to see the final choices.
