Not quite the weekend but tomorrow evening we are going over to the Netherlands Carillon to see a test of the new lighting. We met the supervisor of the renovation today and he told us about it. Things are wrapping up for the dedication May 5. Working on getting the lawn back in shape. Also, we are very much looking forward to the new permanent bathrooms. A visitor center has been built between the Iwo Jima and the Carillon.

Nothing planned as of yet....maybe I should get on that. More lousy weather coming in for the weekend. Friday afternoon looks good. Maybe a walk in the woods to see how the Great Blue Herons are coming along with nest building.

Weather is supposed to be crappy so going to do some more indoor stuff. Going to go to an actual physical store and buy some stuff that I need to replace worn out stuff in the house and also to get out of the house, tired of spending my days off cooped up inside. A couple of plants are starting to sprout in the yard, just a little bit, but it doesn't take long everything always seems to pop at once.

To avoid the weekend we went living room furniture shopping. Prices are crazy and delivery is 5 to 7 months!

Lead times are crazy for anything that is not in stock. Saw a report warning people not to do remodeling, especially kitchens. Out of the ordinary windows and doors can have a one year wait.

Why are these lead times so crazy? If it is a "supply chain" problem from another country then it is time to make things here. Covid? An over used excuse. Most factories didn't shut down so where is the problem?

A friend of mine just gave me his 2004 Dodge Caravan. I'm going to clean it up and give it a full maintenance check this weekend. It has some rust that I will prep and clean up. Then I am giving it to my mother and my aunt to use for putting around town. My mother owned a Caravan back in the day but got rid of it a few years ago. They are extremely versatile vehicles for hauling stuff around - which my mother and my aunt do all the time. They spend a lot of time at farms during the summer months so this will work great for them. It has 170k kms on it, 3.3L v6, motor and tranny run as good as new, those motors last forever, just the bodies tend to rust in certain spots. This will be a quick project vehicle for me then I am donating the finished van to the ladies.

One major contributor to the shortages we are experiencing is the current state of the trucking industry. The trucking crisis is also complicated and multifaceted, which means it won't be easily solved. Like COVID, the current disruptions in our supply systems are probably part of the new normal to which we will all need to adapt, at least for the near term.
And so, this weekend I will look to multiple sources for certain grocery items and other good, locally and on line.

My dad has cars at his shop that have been sitting for months waiting on parts.
A friend at a body shop is seeing parts take 6+ months to get. Even a hood for a 2019 ND, which is by far a rare part.
Some of my customers are held up waiting on plastic for the enclosures for their devices.
Basically everything is slowed right now due to sourcing.
