Sorry to hear this Emil. Today is the second anniversary of my sister’s passing. Losing loved ones in our own generation reminds us of how short life can be

No car stuff going on this weekend so working around the house. Reset the mouse traps in the attic, did a bunch of weedwacking in the gardens and planted some holly hock seeds. Nice cool day today.

Bummer, Emil.

I'm hanging out today letting my broken toe relax. Walking on it has given me sore leg muscles due to using my left foot sideways. My ElliptiGOs are in the shop. Tomorrow, I'm going to Cars and Coffee in Loveland with the 2017 NSX. I went to it on July 25th and met a very nice couple with a BMW i8 and a man with a Porsche. The man and I swapped rides and he may bring his wife this time. She wants a ride, too, I think.

Headed out in a bit to meet up with my sister and brother in law for dinner. She is renting that little cottage near the water for the second time this season. Hope she has better weather than last time. We'll order in some food. Ordering in is not my favorite thing to do, but she is not crazy about dining in when dining out. So ordering in it shall be and we'll enjoy some sister time.

Rick has a big to do list with car cleaning and other "stuff" on the list. Clouds tomorrow, maybe I'll clean..............

Cos made these comments in another thread but I didn't want to go off topic to answer it.

"With all the problems we have with smoke/fires/earthquakes, the one thing we do NOT have are mosquitoes and fleas/ticks. Of course our Guinea fowl eat every tick around. I have not seen one mosquito at home this entire year."

We just spent two hours in 90° heat spraying the whole yard for mosquitoes. We never had any in June but with July came non-stop rain and suddenly all hell broke loose. This is the second spraying this year because we can't catch a break from the rain. Normally our grass is brown now - nope, it is green as can be.

In addition we have ground bees that have to be dealt with. So far I have killed 30 with a fly swatter that got into the house garage. We have a bee killer coming out tomorrow AM. In the past I have had quotes from $150 to $360. He is going to be doing my neighbor's house first and he has both attic and ground bee issues; his quote was about $200. Hope mine will be a little less.

By ground bees do you mean yellow jackets? I think they are the same? We have them at this time of year. No idea where the nest might be, but the hummingbirds have to fight them off at the feeders. We actually haven't been out much at mosquito time, so not sure how we are doing. I remember trying to go to a nature trail a year or so ago. In the sunlight the mosquitos were still brutal. We left.
Good luck with insect control, Dave!

Please don't kill any honey bees. They are valuable to crop polination. If they are honey bees, get them rescued by a bee-keeper. My dad raised bees and we really enjoyed the fresh honey. I just wish I had been more interested in learning how to raise them. I suspect your "ground bees" are yellow jackets, as Lainey noted. Funny how different regions of the country have different names for the same thing.

I do not think honey bees nest in the ground. Yellow jackets on the other hand...My ex got stung by some when he hit the nest with the lawn mower. That really stirred them up.
