^11-22-2020. Thursday night.

^11-21-2020. Wednesday at Huntington Beach, California.

It's 2 AM Friday and I had planned to be at Kennedy Meadows right now at my fifth wheel. Since I got sick from the flu shot I received Wednesday, I ended up not being able to drive there on Thursday, so now my weekend is going to Mount Palomar in San Diego County to watch the strongest ElliptiGO riders compete in the ElliptiGO World Championship on Saturday. It's been an annual event put on by the ElliptiGO company for 9 years but with Covid they don't have any of the social gatherings. There's still going to be a lot of riders there though so I can drive the hour and a half to go to it instead of the four hours to get to Kennedy Meadows.

Patty how is your place in Colorado? My computer was broken and I haven't been online in awhile. I saw on the news that they were evacuating people near Grand Lake and thought of you.

It's fine now, Robb. I was evacuated and got back in the house on Sunday. I left to fly to California on Tuesday and there was still no natural gas to my house so it was getting rather chilly in there. I took a lukewarm shower Tuesday morning cuz the hot water heater wasn't heating without gas. They hooked it back up Tuesday after I left but I had my neighbor come over for $20 to be the adult in the house. That was the Cameron Peak fire which is the biggest in the the state of Colorado, ever. The East Troublesome fire blew up on Wednesday night and that's the one that has evacuated Grand Lake and part of Estes Park. It grew over 100,000 acres in 24 hours! It'll probably pass up the Cameron Peak fire soon in acres burned.

Hopefully Colorado will get some snow/rain that will help douse the fires.

I've been buying, fixing and cleaning things for the last couple of weeks in preparation for winter. I feel like I'm making some progress I'm going to do some cleaning this weekend and launder my bedding, extra blankets and shower curtain. Still haven't taken the shovel down from the attic or the ice scrapers.

It is!

^This is the prediction for Loveland, but there's more snow and colder temperatures predicted for the higher elevations. My house is at 5,280 feet.

I didn't have plans, but yesterday (Saturday) on a whim we decided to load the kids into the Q7 and test out its claimed fuel range. Topped up the tank (26.4gal) at 08:45 and headed West doing a little sightseeing until we ran out of island, touching the sea at a beach south of New Plymouth around 15:00. We then turned around and headed East again until we got home around 20:30. Total mileage so far on the tank: 509 miles. Indicated distance left on tank: 211 miles. Not bad considering we were climbing from near-sea level to 2,500ft and down again, twice, and not trying to drive conservatively.

Best of all, after nearly 12 hours on the road I'm still fresh as a daisy (currently working overnight), as is my wife who normally can't be in a car for more than 2 hours without suffering bad back pain and headaches. And not a single grumble from the kids in the back the whole time. We've finally found family car we're all comfortable in at the same time.

Spent the entire day on yard work which isn't unusual this time of year. Used all the tools for attacking leaves - hand blower, walk behind blower, sweeper, and rider. And we still have 80% of the leaves remaining to fall. Donna and a neighbor spent the entire taking down fencing around the flower beds and preparing the beds for another winter's nap. Thankfully we get to go dinner tonight with good friends to end a productive day.

Drove home from Chincoteague today. We took the scenic route up Rt 1 through Ocean City, the DE coast, etc... (Thanks for the idea Ray). We were headed to the ferry when Cindy asked what time it went. She went to the website and guess what, you need reservations. It was 12:15, and the ferry was running at .... 12:15. Oh well. we were probably 5 minutes away. Next one at 2:45.

So we headed back to the main roads and worked our way home. I've downloaded pics (3700! on the card to go through.) Good news - Cindy's mom is doing well, so we'll be home til Tuesday, head back for a few days and probably be home again next weekend! If the patter continues, it's likely we'll just head down for 1 day a week (Cindy will take her to chemo, I'll do shopping) and we'll have our lives back for a bit.
