The smoke is keeping me inside. It smells..

^6:02 PM. The smoke normally settles as the day cools down. I could smell it at my house in Loveland around 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. from distant fires. I doubt I'll be going outdide again tonight.

^3:35 PM.

My nose stings from the smoke here in Dillon, CO. It's a nice temperature but if I go home I can turn on the air conditioner. My hotel room here does not have ac. But maybe tomorrow will be pretty.

A motel room with no A/C - really? We took off this afternoon with the MG top down (of course). I checked radar before we left not a sign of rain anywhere, although they said possible showers. We were about 45 minutes out, had just picked up a meal for lunch, and I looked at the sky. I said to myself, oh boy this going to be close. It was! The last few miles I was driving above the speed limit down 2-lanes as water was hitting the windshield. Made it home with very little time to spare and boy did it rain hard!! Thankfully we did not go in the restaurant to eat; if so we would have been soaked to the bone.

Dillon Lake is at 9,000 feet. The woman at the front desk told me that 75% of the hotels here do not have AC. Of course they have heat though! I'm not hot and I knew when I booked it they didn't have AC so I brought a little fan just to get the air moving in for a little white noise. I slept fine.

I don't mind getting wet myself but I sure don't want my car interior wet.

The problem is trying to see and drive. The wiper design is 1959 - one speed. The inside of the front window fogs up so bad you have to constantly wipe it. Unless you find a place to pull under, like bikers, you and car are totally soaked if you just stop. We know we will not melt - we have tested that many many times. Heading out to dinner; this time in good old truck (nearing a quarter of century old).

Cleveland radar was showing upwards of 700 lightning strikes in 30 minutes in Northwest Ohio. It looked like the end on the world!
