^ Sorry to hear that Nil-S2K, I have always told my son and wife that any of us could be one bad move/decision away from being homeless or addicted. It doesn't always happen to bad people, just people with some bad luck sometimes. May she rest in peace.

Father's day was always very hard on my nephew growing up as he lost his father when he was only 3 months old, he has now lost his mother in recent months and Mother's day this year was another tough day to add to the mix.

It was a wild ride. She was the most straight-laced woman I knew. Super responsible, financially frugal. Be careful who you hitch your wagon to was the lesson I learned.

I know how your nephew feels. I lost my dad a few days before Christmas in 2021. It's weird when you're supposed to be having a happy holiday with family and you get flooded with negative emotions. Enjoy your family while you can...never know when they (or you) might be gone.

I agree. My Dad took his life at age 59. I found him and that day still haunts me. I was 36 with a young family to support. I had to get through that tragedy and I did. Sometimes life seems unfair but faith and a loving family and friends helped me move on. I feel your pain so I hope you can also move past it.

I'm not entirely sure what made my mom happy.
My mom had a tough life. Her Dad was a philandering alcoholic and my grandmother divorced him in the late 40's after WWII.
I know that left some deep scars since she was an early teen. She found happiness with my Dad. They were married at 18.
Her loved her dearly but he had a series of heart attacks and died at 40. She bootstrapped herself and got a physicians assistant degree.
She worked until retirement. a series of poor ( ok stupid) financial decisions left almost broke living in public senior housing for the last 10 years of her life.
The last 20 years of her life also left her estranged from my siblings. So my family was pretty much her only family really.
I guess all she really ever wanted was to be special, wanted, needed and important in someone's life.
I did my best, I only hope it was enough.

^ Jerry no doubt that adversity made you a stronger and better person, I hope your mother lived her life to the fullest and benefited from your support.

The loss of family members didn't seem to affect me as much in my younger years, but as I age it weighs on me much more. I certainly seem to grieve their loss more now then I did before. I think I was so busy in my daily life that I never stopped to really grieve in the past, but it is catching up with me now. I can relate to stories like this though my experience was different.
