There comes a time in every car's life where it has earned a retirement, and after 10+ years and almost 9,000 track miles, I decided it was time to retire the CRX-Si from track use. Therefore I needed a new ride, and RWD was the #1 thing I had to have, and I really wanted another Honda. In addition to this, I fell in love with the SSM when it was introduced in 1995, and then even more so when the SSX was shown. The interesting thing, I was saving up for a BMW M Roadster until the moment I say the SSM in AutoWeek.

It was time to let the Triple-H retire, and advance to the good life of summer daily driver.

And this is such a great track tool!!!

In April 2001 we had purchased a 1996 delSol for my son who was to get his driver's license in Sep. So Joyce and I spent several summer days driving the targa top up in the Blue Ridge mountains. We really enjoyed it. In Sep we had to give it up and that was that until Dec when we went to the local Honda dealer to discuss buying out our 99 Accord off lease or to lease a new Accord. In the showroom was a Spa Yellow S2000. It was gorgeous! I was not even aware they existed. We both really liked it but when Joyce, even though she can drive a stitck shift she was disappointed it did not come in automatic., so she kinda retreated.

During this time I had been shopping for a 60's muscle car, but the "S" changed my perspective and I started carrying on about how neat a car that S2000 was and next thing I know at Christmas my beautiful wife informs me she got me a Spa Yellow S2000........ 1/24 scale

As the months went by I just kept on about what a great car the S2000 was so we finally started shopping the used car market in Sep 2002. We found a 2000 NFR with all the options (except HT). It only had been driven 1300 miles! Now this car was 2 years old and it actually had cobwebs in the wheel spokes. This was my first drive in an "S" and I was hooked.

When we got back from the test drive I put the top up and the plastic rear window was completrly hazed over because the guy had stored the car in the garage with the top down. That was kind of a turn off so we decided to talk it over some before we bought that one. At this point Joyce suggested I find an '02 model with the glass back window. Well, twist my arm!! I just happened to know where there was a Spa Yellow '02 with only 2300 miles.

So, I test drove it and the rest is history

I am very glad I went with the "S" instead of the muscle car. I still love them but I can't imagine having more driving fun and meeting such nice folks as we have with the "S"

BTW,
1. The first "S" I saw in that showroom.... '02 Spa Yellow
2. The scale model replica I received at Christmas....'02 Spa Yellow
3. The one I finally bought 9 months later of course it was also.... '02 Spa Yellow!!!!

My son told me about it. I liked that it was a Honda. My wife thought it was cute; that was enough to surprise her with a new car that I knew she would rarely ever drive. I was right. No regrets.
