Default What computer/forum "tricks" have you learned

For many of us, this forum may have been our first internet forum experience. As we learned how to use the forum, we may have learned a thing or two from other members. Things that make navigation easier, posting pics, etc.

I've learned a lot.

I learned that photobucket.com is a great site to host pics. Thanks Bass.

I learned how to properly quote more than one person. Thanks, Dr. C.

I learned how to put images in my sig line. Thanks, Ms. Perky

I learned how to put a little ticker in my sig line. Thanks, Val.

I got a link to a great site with lots of fun smiles and learned how to use them. Thanks, Psycho Ben.

I got directed to this site by none other than Legal Bill. Thanks, Bill.

I've also learned that there are some really great people out there in the world. Always willing to lend a hand, an ear, or whatever is needed at the moment.

Thanks all!

What have you learned here?

Raymo I thought you were a computer guy already. Maybe you can teach the class?

One thing I'd like to learn -- and something that I bet wouldn't last long if posted in public -- would be how to edit directly the initialization file for my login.

Now, it's possible to edit some of that stuff using the MyS2KI interface, of course, like what avatar is there, how the signature looks, where you're from, and so on. And to do this, that initialization file has to be writable by individual users. Hence, it must be possible to edit it directly, if only its location and name were available.

It's pretty clear that people who have experience with these phBB (or whatever they're called) bulletin board software packages know how to do this, because occasionally you'll see some very interesting stuff in that personal info block, stuff that there seems to be no way to get there via the MyS2KI interface.

I guess this is what separates us regular, reasonably savvy users from the true power users. HPH

I have no clue on that one, Dr. C. To be honest, I'm not even sure what it is you want to do.

I agree! For me it's more like 1%. Maybe the helpful friends that you have mentioned will get lots of questions now about these goodies! FAQ!!!

Right now!

Lesson one: More smileys than you ever need: Smiley

Click on the category you want, click on the smiley you want.. Different browsers work differently.(Some easier than others) You need to get the web address of the individual smiley, click copy.

Go back to your thread reply and click on image. Paste the address.

You should have something like this:
http://www.emotihost.com/ver1/clueless/1.gif which will equal this on the thread

It has to be exact, in order to get the smiley. If for some reason you end up with
http://www TWICE, just delete the first one.

Any questions?
