My Fiat '82 Spider was a wonderful car. I had it many years, and it was the precursor to my Miata. The thing broke down a few times on me, but I loved it nonetheless.

 

I had a room mate back in the 70's that also had a X19 that would agree with you.

 

A few times even Tony couldn't fix it. One dealer asked me not to bring it back to him for service. He told me "We just don't like working on that car. It's impossible to fix."

That was after he had to pull the steering column to replace the spring on the brake pedal that had broken.

What a pile of junk.

 

Each car I've had I was glad to sell or dispose of at the time. Especially the British cars during the 70's. I learned to rally drive in a front wheel drive 1965 Morris, but was quite relieved when I blew the engine up. I've driven Hondas since 1980 because they handled well on loose gravel roads at the time.

I suppose the car I would most like to still have would be my S2000 ... ooh, wait, I still have it. Yahoo, must go for a drive

I think that when I sell my S, I wil be ready for something different, but hopefully that will be a long way away.

Hey Ms. Pesky!!! I'm dealing....although I realize that the car that I really wish I still had was a 2003 Spa Yellow Bone Stock S2000. I still walk out in the garage and can't believe the car isn't there

Yeah! I saw that last post about the Sunbeam Tiger and, although a neat car, I was wondering why you hadn't said the S!!!

 

Your Fall?? Our Spring?? Good time, although the weather can be a little unpredictable before end December. Which part of NZ do you want to see?

I have driven around upstate New York, and into the New England area. Seems a shameto miss out on the fall colours: we don't see that here.

Sorry to hear you had so much trouble with the X1/9. I loved mine! (All 4 of them!) It helped that I did all my own work on them. Of course, changing out the clutch and brake master cylinders resulted in some choice 4-letter words as they were mounted to the steering column under the dash. You knew it was time to replace them when the brake fluid was burning your feet.

By the way, the one you have pictured is not a 1979. They changed bumper and wheel design in 1979 and yours has the earlier bumpers and wheels. I would guess it was a 1978. The major change in 1979 was the "Big Block" motor... 1.5 liter instead of 1.3 and a 5-speed replaced the 4-speed. The 1.5 brought the horsepower up to 78, I think
