FO2K with MsPerky on the Avanti. I have always had a "thing" for that car.

Rob, I could not help but notice the address of the dealer you bought it from. Ah! Hillside Avenue On the western end of Hillside Avenue (at 117 ST) was one of my old hang outs: Jahn's Ice Cream Parlor (Since 1898). Unfortunately, it is gone now.

Logic would say it has to be one of my old sports cars, like the '63 Vette, but for some strange reason I had a great attachment to a "1972 Toyota Corona MkII".

Maybe it was because I took so much Union crap because it was Japanese.
Maybe it was because I had it tuned up and fooled folks.
Maybe it was because I got to rebuild it after hitting the same tree twice in one night (long story).
But probably it was because every day when I did my Grand Prix drive to/from work down Woodward Ave (Clarkston to Royal Oak) I could beat the crap out of cars weighing three times as much with engines five times larger.

Matt

I remember that Jahn's. I was dating a Queens College girl for a while and we used to go there.

One of my friends in the Metro NYC group told me that E. Koeppel is still there, but now sells Volkswagons. I haven't been back there in years.

I bought a Triumph TR-6 from Koeppell in 1976. That Triumph and my 1979 Fiat X-1/9 were the only two cars I've ever been sorry I bought. After the Triumph I swore I'd never buy another British car.

Rob,

You would not recognize the "old neighborhood".

Robb

Sorry about pulling this thread off topic.

Here's a photo of a car that I don't want to ever have again.

My 1979 Fiat X-1/9. The worst car I ever owned, possibly the worst car ever made. I had so much trouble with this car that I couldn't wait to sell it. This car and my Triumph TR-6 were nightmares.

By the way, notice the ski rack on the roof. We never made it upstate that weekend. The car brokedown 1/2 way there and we had to hitch a ride home.

For me it would be the 1971 1/2 Datsun 240Z. Purchased it new for about $3700, received a rebate from the feds due to some repealed tax. After a front end crash had it repainted Corvette silver. Raced it in the Cannonball Sea to Shinning Sea Memorial Trophy Dash in 1972. Just plain loved to drive that car.

Actually it was a pretty sexy car. Too bad it was such a pile of junk.
