Lainey, thank you for encouraging your friend to let his friends make their own decisions on commitment. What a wonderful choice she made.

I've lost several friends in thepast few years to cancer, but i think the one who hurt the most was a lady who was really only a peripheral friend: you know, the kind of person you talk to once in a while and maybe have over for a little get-together every couple/years. Anyway, she developed some kind of unusual lung cancer (never smoked in her life btw) and as soon as her diagnosis was made, she called me. She told me very frankly that at best she had only a few months and she wanted me to know and to say goodbye. I went to see her and enjoyed our visit very much. At her wake her husband told me that she'd told him how much my visit meant to her. I was shocked since I'd done nothing special. We never know how little simple things matter so much to others.
