Waiting....how do you handle it?

^ We all know Matt is the thread killer.
I think I handle waiting pretty well. I have alot of patience...as most of you already know. And the ones who have been on the receiving end when my patience has run out know, too! I prefer to call it "anticipation" instead of "waiting".

I enjoy waiting to a certain extent...it's enforced down-time. If I know ahead of time that I'm going to have to wait, I'll take a book or some paperwork that I can't otherwise get to. My favorite place to wait is at the airport, but here I have a dilemma. I always have a book to read (or pick up something by an author I don't normally read at one of the airport shops), but my other favorite waiting game is people watching, and reading definitely interferes with that.
I don't enjoy waiting when it involves an emotional issue, though (ie. family health, other family issues, finances, etc.)...then I just spend time worrying....

Darlene.....I'm not sure what started your tirade on this thread, which is about "Waiting".
Before your interruption, there were some interesting comments on the subject. In any event, I won't be responding to any more of it, so you're welcome to have the last word.

I think "unexpected waiting" is worse than when you know you'll have to wait.
Yesterday just before closing, I realized UPS had not shown up at my office for a pick up.
So I started making phone calls and ended waiting pass closing time for the driver. It wasn't a long wait, but enough to aggravate. It was one of several recent UPS screw ups, which makes me think I should be calling FedEX.
On the way home, I had to stop at the local post office. Usually a quick trip. Yesterday there was a line to the door.
I did not "wait well" yesterday.

I go out of my way to avoid waiting in lines. I have the luxury of hitting stores during the weekdays when people are at work so that removes a lot of waiting in lines.
Last night we went to the Olive Garden for dinner, on a Monday night. They said the wait would be 15 minutes but it was more like 45 minutes. I was pissed. We have another little hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant we could have gone to and walked right in, with better food, but I wanted the nicer decor at Olive Garden. Last night I said, "I will never come here again!"

I do a lot of solo travel for work. I end up spending gobs of time in airports and restaurants with nothing to do and no one to talk to. This has made me into a compulsive reader. I almost never leave the house without a book or magazine to pass the time.
You sometimes get the strangest looks from restaurant staff when you ask for a table with better reading light.

Even on my 1/2 hour commute into CC Philly in the S, I pick it up for a 15 second 'read' at every stop light
I can't stand to waste time b/c I never have enough of it...
