Default Waiting....how do you handle it?

This recent comment from Dave (dlq04) brought a new topic to mind:
Seems like we spend half our life waiting......

I CANNOT stand to wait. Waited 40 minutes at a restaurant last night and it about drove me crazy. Patience is not my middle name.

Edit: Ok, how do you make big words?

Advice to Editor: (1) I think you can only spec size from 1 to 10; (2) The ending bracket must be

As a Big Picture guy, I learned how to make big words a long time ago. Now, if I could just learn how to make big bucks...

I hate waiting too . I'm waiting for my S2000. As soon as I get the call it should only be a very short time, but I have no idea when that call will come. I've been waiting for this time for about a year now, and I'm ready for some payoff!!!

I thought you just clicked the "size" button above the reply box?

Normally I don't have any problem waiting. Most of it is all minor stuff in the end.

I get impatient on important things. For example, we spent 7 hours in emergency with my mother a week ago Friday. White blood cells down, red blood cells down, hemoglobin down (i.e., normal is 36, she's at 9). We still don't have clue as to the cause. That's frustrating. She 87 and lives alone, so we wait and worry.

Waiting 40 minutes to eat can be annoying. Waiting 40 minutes for someone to take a drink order can be grounds for murder.

But, most stuff is no big deal. I've been thinking about the big tv for years but I won't pay the huge amounts when I know they will be down another 40% by year end (or so they say). And, who needs a big tv anyways if there is no hockey puck to watch.

I think it really depends on what you're waiting for. For example, the digital camera or LCD TV. If it's that important that you cannot wait, you satisfy yourself by buying it now. If it's not so important you wait. If you can't wait, you pay the price and justify it by your lack of patience.

I am fairly patient when it comes to waiting. After all, I am a Army Veteran (hurry up and wait).

However, I long got over waiting at business establishments (trendy restaurants, etc) standing on line waiting for the privilege to spend my money with them. If there is over a ten minute wait, I will just go somewhere else. Especially, if I can be seated and served within that ten minute window.

I long for the days when it was possible to experience this: Years ago (1970) there was a very nice an popular restaurant on the north shore of Long Island. One would have to make reservations over a week in advance, sometimes more than two weeks. My oldest brother took my then girlfriend and I there for dinner one night just before I was inducted into the Army after being drafted in the first draft lottery. My brother was in sales and use to take his favorite customers there for lunch. When we arrived a few minutes before our reservation time, they did not have a table for us. Because the previous parties had taken longer than they had anticipated. The Maitre De apologized and invited us to go to the bar, where the drinks where on the house until our table was ready to make up for the inconvenience.

I miss that philosophy. We did not do anything wrong. We showed up on time for our reservation and failed to deliver a table for four. No wonder, my brother went there for years as his favorite place to entertain clients. BTW, the service at this restaurant was excellent with adult career servers.

Matt, I'm going OT on my own thread to say:

In Switzerland (and probably other Euro countries), being a waiter/ -tress is a recognized profession ....rather than a stop-gap while waiting for 'the acting job'

Now, back to the waiting game.... (Where are the ladies? They must have some comments on 'waiting' )
