Spring fling is gonna have to be in August. That will be the first time we'll be dug out.
I've never seen ice dams like this.
Lainey I have icicles hanging halfway to the first floor. ~15 feet long.
I just spent 5 hours with the snow blower widening our common drive section and cutting back snowbanks.
We're only halfway through February and sadly there could still be a lot of winter left.
Depending upon what kind of precipitation we get Tuesday, any snow bank in place could be a rock for the rest of the winter.
I don't know if it the "worst" winter but it certainly has been a pretty packed few weeks.
We basically had no real snow to speak of a month ago.

A suggestion for those of you with ice dams and you are going to laugh but I'm not kidding, put some ice melt in some panty hose and if you are able to lay it out on the roof do that if not throw it up on the roof.

Rock salt is "sort of" ok.
Plain old salt has a higher melting point in ice ( around 15°F) than calcium chloride ( -20°F) does buy a long shot.
the key is to make ALL of he melt water with salt in it runs off of the house and not back into it.
Plaster with salt in it will expand when it dries and crumble which is generally viewed as a very bad thing.
so make sure when you drape the stocking the end is running off of the roof.

Well, we've dodged a few bullets, but tomorrow evening into Tues we will see 5" or more of the white stuff. Not a lot by everyone else's standards, but here in DC it is a big deal. The liquidators are coming tomorrow AM to my mother's house to clear it out. Not sure they will be able to finish, but I'm not sticking around over there past 4:30.
