[QUOTE=RC - Ryder,Feb 15 2010, 06:19 PM] When I used to run almost every day, neither heat, rain, wind or snow could stop me.

I have never gotten into cycling. It sure would have to be a huge improvement over stationary bikes, which bore me terribly. I used to do a lot of swimming, but I overdid that until I ended up with shold problems. I'm more ready to act my age now, but I don't have ready access to a pool anymore.

^^ Admirable. I was never meant to be a runner, but I did not listen to either good advice or what my body was telling me.

^I think anything too excessive is not good for your health anyway. If you do some core strengthening exercises with healthy diet, you'll be fine. Moderate amount of exercise such as walking or stationery cycling will be good.

my knees were never designed for running. I do like cycling.
I had Osgood-Slaughter's as a teenager and then ripped up my knee playing soccer.

There's not a Y somewhere nearby? Kathy and I have a "couples" membership...about 1000 per year for full use of pool, gym, SAUNA

That's where I go 5+ times per week....10 minutes away....until the new $$$$ high school pool is completed at the end of this year. My tax dollars at work.... NOT

I think all you "I'm-gonna-live-forever" fitness nuts have lost the spirit of this topic.

Stationery bikes are boring as hell. However, if you get a bike and a good set of rollers you will not be bored riding indoors. When you ride rollers the bike is not fixed in place. You ride on 3 alloy rollers which connects to a fan to provide cooling and resistance. I have support on both sides in case I ride off the edge. The workout is awesome and the balance you attain helps when you ride outdoors. This workout greatly improves your pedal stroke and balance. Just a suggestion as I enjoy mine and the time flys by when you train on them.

^^ Right on. The military encouraged endless running, sit-ups, pushups, pullups, jumping jacks, and deep knee bends. Some did it in moderation, others did it to the extreme. The latter has consequences to most all the joints. I'm learning to live with it, and I take personal responsibility. I had fun, and it was great while it lasted.
