Default Vintage racer in serious condition

As many know, I love vintage racing and it would have been my dream to do it. I bought an MGA just for that purpose but never was able to complete the project due to arthritis, so I instead bought the S2000 and played with it on the track to get some of it out of my system.

At Road Atlanta last month Craig Bennet was vintage racing a 900+hp 1974 Shadow DN4 Can-Am racer that weighs only 1650 pounds when something bad happened. Craig has tons of experience racing vintage Can-Am cars. I’ve watched him drive at Road America a few times. This was a car they were still sorting out when suddenly something went wrong and the car went head-on into a barrier with a hell of a hit. He was Medivaced to the hospital. Reportedly a crushed L5 vertebrae was the worst of it but that still left two broken legs, two broken ankles, two broken wrists, a badly fractured shoulder, etc.

Updates on his condition are being posted here:

Godspeed and get well, Craig. We used to watch the UOP Shadow race in the Riverside Raceway CanAm races. I loved those cars, particularly the orange McLarens.

Thanks. There is no getting around the inherent dangers of old technology. Something I know a little about, having totaled an MGA.

I hope he recovers. Getting speared by the Austin Healey's steering column is my one big fear about driving that car.
