Fortunately, we didn't get much in the way of rain yesterday, so the streets and roads were dry before the temps really dropped. So no issues with ice here on the coast.
Right now it's 21F. Pretty cold for Mardi Gras, but then again not much going on this year thanks to the pandemic. Like you, Deb, we are expecting temps to be back to near normal by Wednesday with highs in the mid to upper 50s. Looks like next week we will be in the 60s all week.

Looks like we didn't get much more than 6 inches overnight but it's going to be wet and heavy like cement.

we got a light coating of ice, what i would call observable ice, before switching over to rain.
I'm ok with that.

We got power back last night, but it does not look very reliable or permanent here in Texas.

Here we call 6" a disaster! Speaking of, we might get somewhere around that tomorrow. The dreaded wintry mix is in the forecast, so who knows what will actually fall from the sky.

I am guessing that most folks don't have extensive heating systems.
Either heat pumps or baseboard electric sine it is cheapest to install.
Most people virtually never use it or barely so.
Right up until they turn it on full and expect it to work.
The grid designers never plan for everyone to use them all at the same time since that would be very expensive and " that will simply just never happen."
Honestly I'd be surprised if they have more than 40-50% of the capacity they need to get through this.
a lot of polls who made hay on California last summer and finding Karma really is a bitch.

I saw something that said TX just did not prepare for the kind of cold that they are seeing. So pipes and the wind turbines (which apparently supply 30% of the electricity) froze.

Wind is only 5% of their capacity.
Colossal oops.
