I'm not sure how accurate my rain gauge is, but I emptied it yesterday and today it showed 4 inches. I knew it rained all night, but didn't know it rained that hard! That's about 9 inches since Christmas.

Is not the Bay Area getting lots and lots of rain?

My two sisters live in Davis and they are getting lots and lots of rain, too.

We're approaching the middle of Summer here and I spent yesterday afternoon, in the rain, ripping trenches in the paddocks to give the water somewhere to drain out. We've moved stock to higher ground to get them out of the mud. We're normally starting to get desperate for moisture right about now (historical average for January is 1in), but we've had rain at least 15 of the last 30 days.

A cyclone is hitting the country a couple of hundred miles north of me right now, with flooding, landslides, gales and power outages. Should be sweeping over us later tonight. I'm busying myself with indoor work since I can't get any fencing done nor, funnily enough, any drainage work in preparation for next Winter.

Crazy weather in some places!
Meanwhile, our winter (so far) has been quite mild and (knock wood) no snow in our area. It was in the low 40's today and I got to spend time outside without freezing. I'm not unhappy about this.

We will see what the rest of the winter brings.

Woke up to snow this morning expecting accumulation of maybe an inch today then heavy rain tonight and then temps getting colder tomorrow and storm will end with snow. So a snow rain sandwich.

We ended up with about an inch of snow yesterday then rain all last night into this morning and rain will continue throughout the day today with temps getting into the 40’s. Temps expecting to drop tonight and into the weekend.

California is getting tons of snow and so much that it's above normal right now for April 1st in Snow Water Equivalent. This is an excellent source of information.

The state is currently at 104% of the April 1 average, and at 227% of normal for this date, as of 1-12-2023
