yeah the whole island is just a few feet above sea level, and the storm surge hit that area really hard. Even the rich mansion owners will probably find their homes severely ruined, most homes and buildings are 2 storeys or less there. We have spent quite a bit of time on Sanibel and Captiva over the years, it would not hold up well to that storm surge.

They showed a camera on a lamp post 12 feet in the air at Fort Myers and the water was starting to exceed the height of the camera, and going up to 18 feet in some spots.

Hurricane Fiona walloped the east coast of Canada bad, who would have thought Canada would be hit so hard with a hurricane. We are in a more central location of the Country, though we had a hurricane come down our region many years back - Hurricane Hazel, which was a real fluke.
We've had chilly weather and warm weather, back and forth this time of year. I don't try to hold off on turning on the heat. If we are cold, we turn it on. If we are hot, we turn on the AC. We like staying comfortable, no matter the date on the calendar.

Florida did indeed get smacked!

Actually we throw in the towel when the temp hits 65 degrees indoors this time of the year, that is my limit, it usually happens by a certain date, but we don't let it get below 65.

Hey, David. Have you heard from your sister? Lots of flooding down her way but from what I've seen structural damage looks to be surprisingly moderate, considering this was almost a cat 5 storm when it came ashore. Credit state and local building codes that have been upgraded several times over the years.

Looks like clean-up will be a long slog but at least they will have nice weather for at least a week. Power will take some time, obviously. Anyway, let us know of any news you get.

My sister made it thru the storm. They lost several trees and have no power or water. The only communication they have is via text.

My brother is further inland and I have not been able to get hold of him.

Talked to my daughter in Charleston and they were at the store stocking up for the storm. She is like her father!!

Beautiful weather right now in SW Colorado. Our nephew was visiting this week, and we drove up from Durango to Silverton and Ouray to see the aspen colors yesterday.

Leaving next week to drive the S to KY for S2KCA Days.

Have not heard from my friend in Venice Island. Hope she and her mother went to the evac center. So much water near the house. Assuming sis in Melbourne has fared better so far. No news from her, either. TBD

Sis in Melbourne did OK. Lost a few bushes but not power. They ended up being a bit farther south from the center and lucked out.

I have an uncle in Melbourne. I texted with one of his sons, my cousin, last evening. At that point things looked good. Looking at various tracking web sites, it looks like they are getting some moderate tropical storm force winds. Tree and limb damage likely but most of Brevard County still has power with about 13% of Brevard County customers reporting loss of power, per FPL.
