Looking like Ian is headed more toward the central east coast of FL, meaning Orlando, Melbourne and points east are at higher risk for hurricane conditions than previously predicted. More rain, wind, possible tornadoes, etc.

It seems like the cold weather has arrived earlier than usual in our parts, trying to keep from putting on the heat so soon. I usually try to hold out until Canadian Thanksgiving for heat, will see how it goes.

Hurricane Fiona walloped the east coast of Canada bad, who would have thought Canada would be hit so hard with a hurricane. We are in a more central location of the Country, though we had a hurricane come down our region many years back - Hurricane Hazel, which was a real fluke.

Hazel was many years ago. I was in that one in NC. My uncle decided to drive through some water down at the camp we used to go to and the car stalled. Water was coming in. He had to walk a mile or so to the camp to get help while we stood out in the dark waiting for snakes to swim by.

Seeing reports that Ian may keep going out to sea after crossing FL and make another landfall off the Carolinas. Yikes…

I haven't heard from my sister and don't expect to for several days. I'm glad my mom isn't there anymore as her house was only a few feet about high water level.

I hope your sister will be okay.

How about your mom? Where does she live now? How old is she?

Your sister knows her stuff. It's water, not wind, that is the greatest threat to life in a hurricane. And Ft. Myers is flooded with storm surge now and will be for hours. I hope your sister is ok and is ready for an extended power outage.

In another warning sign, at least 21 Waffle Houses are closed in that area.

Mom passed away several years ago. She is still in Ft. Myers but the storm isn't bothering her.

She use to live on the road (Summerlin) leading to Sanabel Island. With the pictures from Ft Myers Beach her home would have been swamped.

I've driven that road quite a few times, it is only a few feet above the water level, it would be hard it right now with flooding. The Ft Myers area is under 12-18 feet of water, scary levels.
