I just talked to my Dad who is on the east coast he said he is prepared but they are not expecting much. I just keep thinking of when Irene came Vermont wasn't supposed to be hit by it which didn't turn out to be the case.
We have friends that moved from our area and have a condo on a spit of land extending into the gulf, west of Tampa. They say they aren't worried. Don't have hurricane insurance. I think they are nuts. I know it's a nice building and they aren't on the bottom few floors, but they no doubt have windows and sliding doors facing west, and facing the hurricane. Don't you think there is a good chance that 120 MPH winds might push those in? Rain and wind then ruining everything inside their condo?
They are most likely in a mandatory evac area. My friend and her mother are in Venice. Really worried about them especially since they are now pretty much in the bullseye with the shift to the south. I sent them the addy of the nearest shelter but her mother is stubborn and probably will not agree to leave. Zone A only two blocks from the Intracoastal in a one-story house. Between water and losing power could be really bad.

Hopefully they have hurricane shutters, if so they may help....not sure how much!
Just talked to my sister in Ft Myers and they have their hurricane shutters on and are ready. She is not worried about the wind but is worried about the water surge. They are not near the coast but the are very close to the Caloosahatchee River.
They are more worried about where Jim Cantore is. Anywhere he is, disaster can’t be far away!

I think that spit of land is called Sand Key. I think the high point on that sand bar/barrier Island is about 3 feet above sea level maybe four.
If they get hit by the eye wall or just east of it, it is not going to be a pretty scene. Whole pieces of the island may relocate.
My neighbor and old boss has a place on Sanibel Island..... for now.
They are on Indian Island or something with Indian in the two name town. They may have the metal shutters to pull down, that would make sense considering the seven figures paid for the condo.
