Wow, sounds like you guys had a lot of fun and kept it on the "black stuff"! I was reading these posts to Fran and she commented, "and to think you were going to get a Civic Hybrid!"
(Aloha) Colin and Franceen,

That is what I kept telling my students about using more of the track than they were in many cases: Black stuff good, green bad!

Several people had excursions through the grass. As seen in some of the pictures particularly after T7 the right hand off camber downhill that if one was in the wrong place would unload the suspension and cause a "J" hook into the grass.

No problem - I enjoyed riding with you. Next time, we'll work on the heel and toe and that will solve that problem...
Heel and toe is one of the skills that takes lots of practice to get it right. The good news is that it can be practiced in day to day driving.

So about how long does it take for this to all come together. Seems like there was a lot to think of right off the bat. Just learning the track took everything I had.
Granny: You must have had a crumby instructor?

I started working on it today on the way to/from work.

Going back the vision aspect...I found a pic of me autoxing that shows what mike was saying about looking somewhere other than where your car is pointing...

Looking UP to where your are going is essential! It is natural for your hands to follow your eyes.

That was the advice that I was giving my students (granny got the wording slightly wrong) But at Beaverun with the tricky T5, T6, T7 complex series (where people wanted to turn in early and miss the late apex I would say: wait, wait, wait, turn in, hit the apex, look up (to the exit cone) and unwind.

The best easy example of this can be done right where you are standing now: Look across the room at an object. then extend your arm and point your index finger at that object. Then without changing the position of your index finger, move your body behind your index finger and low and behold it will be pointing at the target! This is a classic example of why looking where you want to go is SO important (especially in accident avoidance).

On the street I have seen classic examples of this at work. A east bound car making a left hand turn across three lanes of on coming traffic. When the car was across the extreme right hand land a west bound car that could have used the left or middle west bound lanes (both of with were clear of traffic) to steer around the accident fixated and center punched the car.

Rick,

Marco might be on to something here?

With out giving away the conversation that some of us had at the track on Monday regarding the possible locations of FCT05. Perhaps, if it can be arranged a Vintage track day in April at the location could serve as a trial run of the track facility as well. There should be B&B's around that location for Spring Fling.

Matt,

Remember what you were saying Sunday night about the oil filters spinning off and causing the two engine failures at the track? I came across this thread in Under The Hood:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=245303

Might be a good preventive measure for that problem.

Tom, good spot. That's a very clever idea.
