Cancelling vacation is no fun. We all cancelled vacations during Covid. We've also cancelled a trip when Rick needed an unexpected third surgery on his shoulder and my Dad was very ill. I cancelled the Canada trip we just took twice last year. Once to due to weather and wild fires, and the other time due to my sister being ill.

My local sister is on a European River Cruise. Cancelled once, if not twice to due Covid, and last year due to a fall off her bike. As of now she and my brother in law and travel companions are enjoying.

wow that is a lot of cancelled trips, that would suck, but at least you had some practice at it. This is the first time in my 40 years of travelling that we had to cancel or modify the date in any way, we've been lucky I guess. It was for a very good reason and no loss of money so it is all good , to enjoy at a future date. Thanks Lainey.

Joey, did you have to sign over the trip to the insurer?
It would be interesting to be associated with the insurer.
I bet they get a lot of last minute trips for some rather, shall we say, 'affordable' prices?

Hi Jerry, the cancellation coverage we got from the tour company was directly with them , good for 12 months on the full value we paid. We are going to re-book hopefully for the end of July and prices have dropped as it becomes more of a last minute trip now compared to when we first booked it. We will get a credit on the lower price which helps, a few hundred bucks.

So we hope to head out July 29th now barring any unforeseen issues, and we have further cancellation protection on that date too if needed .

Let's assume you don't use this trip.
There will be a vacancy on the vessel.
Someone could use that spot is my point.

I don't know all of the details but our tour company has committed to filling a certain number of seats on the airplane carrier's flight to our destination, the tour company doesn't have their own planes. If we don't use the seats then they don't get filled, but the tour company still pays the airline. or one of the groups tries to fill the seats as a last minute promotion. Someone may get a cheap flight on that date or better. We don't get our money back we just get a credit to use up for 12 months into the future. I hope this trip gets used though.

We are re-booked for July 29th - August 5th. My wife is always worried about hurricane season but hopefully we won't get any near us while we are on the island of Cuba. The most recent hurricane that swept through the area missed Cuba completely. We do have additional cancellation insurance just in case. We haven't been on holidays since 2022, we desperately need to get away.

Anyone watching the Open. The weather is typical Scottish golf weather. Yesterday was one of the worst ever. Heavy rain took a toll. Today the wind is ferocious. I’m pulling for a Billy Horschel who has never won a major after many years on tour. He just birdied the first hole.

I gave my agent instructions to re-book my vacation using the credit note we have on file for July 29th to August 5th. It took him about 3+ days before he sent the request to the travel company and by that time all of plane seats were sold out. We now have to move the dates to August 5th - 12th, I still have cancellation insurance with the new booking so I am safe either way. We are leaving a bit later due to the mix-up but hopefully still planning to be on vacation soon.

I often feel that taking a vacation can be an exhausting experience. I have to work twice as much just before I go away , and twice as much after returning from vacation. The process of travelling can be a pain going through airports and dealing with luggage and border security. We do a lot of work just to take a few days off. I love being on vacation once I am at the destination but getting there and back is a fair bit of work.
