Thursday is another lousy day and Friday looks good, hoping to get to the Bay of Fundy National Park.

Today was a real wash out, not just clouds, lots of rain. We headed out anyway. Drove along the coastline a bit, made a couple of stops. We were looking for a lavender farm, just because I saw it on line; who doesn't want soap that costs $7.00/bar? We passed a little purple shed that was in the correct location but no signage indicating they were open. Right next door was a distillery. Neither of us drinks hard liquor but we stopped. It's on a potato farm and they use the potatoes to make vodka. They even had some other types of seltzers and beverages made with vodka. I purchased a can of lemonade blueberry vodka type drink, a soap made with potato juice (good for the skin they say), and we sampled (and purchased) a bottle of martini espresso vodka or something like that. Rick and I both sampled and though I don't care for coffee flavoring, it was pretty darn good. Might be very tasty over some ice cream/whipped cream.

Tomorrow's destination
We have a nice lavender farm in my home town area, my wife and I love it. I am embarrassed to say that we do pay about $7.00 for their lavender soap here , but it is a big sized soap and it lasts a long time. We love the smell of it, they distill the lavender on site and then use the distillation to make their soap.

oh man I absolutely hate the smell of lavender. My sister in law loves it and grows it with cute little sachets all over her house.

We stopped in at Seafoam Lavender during our days in Tatamagouche. Cindy got a few things.

Every commercial on the radio when were in PEI was about potatoes. "We're potato people!" and some potato festival that was coming up.

Enjoy! Hope you get some better weather.

I actually prefer the smell of lilac vs lavender. BUT we had free time this afternoon and took a ride back to the lavender field.....she was closed. I could not look up her number on my phone as at that time, I didn't have active international data plan...see above.

We went to the lovely boardwalk over the sand dune, and an arboretum today. I thought there was more to do in that town but it was a nice day for a ride. More rain tomorrow. Maybe a little shopping and some bowling if we are desperate. There is a casino, but Rick said he would rather try to throw a bowling ball with his bad arm than go to a casino.

I really hate giving my hard earned money to someone else.

I'm with Rick, I hate casino's. A couple times a year I humor the wife by going with her. She plays the one arm bandits and usually does ok. She always has a set limit and always cashes in any large wins ASAP before going back to play more.

No bowling, found a car museum. Only cost $5.00 to get in so not expecting much...I'll try for some pics. Not happy with too many of my pics this trip. I did buy some little magnets for the refrigerator that have a very nice hand painted scene on them. I'll have to dig them out of the car and post pics in art thread Also bought a Canada type scene painted on wood. Maybe about 5 x 7. It will have a spot in the kitchen/dining area. There are lots of breweries around. Many have a lot of the IPA's not Rick's favorite, but we can look around.

First day activities in Detroit complete. Walked about seven miles and am tired after getting up early to fly. This is a very cool small city. Much smaller than I expected. There is a free people mover with a stop right across the street from our hotel which stops right at the building where my nephew lives. So very convenient to not have to be in the car. First we went with nephew to the famous Buddy’s for Detroit style pizza. Delicious. Then we took the people mover to his apt to walk along the Detroit Riverwalk with his rescue greyhound Misfire. Very nice dog. Spent some time there before going to a Middle Eastern place for dinner. Another delicious meal. Also discovered a soft serve ice cream place across from the hotel, so had to have a chocolate/vanilla swirl. Yum…I expect to have gained about five pounds after this weekend.

Pics to follow. Tomorrow AM early, Vito is running along the River in anticipation of his half marathon on Sat. Then we are back to nephew’s place for a bit of breakfast before heading to the Detroit Zoo. There is a very cool penguin conservation center there I want to see. Then we may go to the Motown Museum. Not sure yet. Vito got tix to see KC and the Sunshine Band tomorrow night at the music hall up the street. That was a surprise. More adventures to follow!

Walked on a 1/2 mile boardwalk over a sand dune yesterday. That was nice. Today was another rainy day. We did go to the small car museum, had lunch, hung out at the rental for a while. The sun did come out later in the day so we got in a walk to the beach. I'll post pics from the car museum another time. Tomorrow we will be in the Bay of Funday National Park area. I didn't do a good job of mapping this trip out. Trying to cover too much ground and the weather prevented some of our plans from happening.
The boardwalk over the sand dune. It was not as sunny as we hoped. Clouds kept coming in.

View looking back

Guy with camera #2 snapped a pic. View of marsh

Look to the left, you can see the boardwalk in the distance

View from observation deck

This reminds me of a funny T-shirt I used to see people wearing in past years - " You Think You're Tough , I Vacation in Detroit "

Are you able to see the Henry Ford Village, I always wanted to see that , and the ruins of the Packard Plant. I was working right across the Detroit River the last two days on the Canadian side across from where Vito would be running, in downtown Windsor. I am back home this evening (2 hours away ) . Enjoy the rest of your trip.
