I can see your point. But my 320 CDI turbo diesel gets consistently one third or better fuel mileage than the equivalent gasoline engine, depending on the lead in my foot. And diesel fuel is actually cheaper than premium sprit during the warmer months -- you are paying heating oil prices for diesel in the East right now. In other parts of the country diesel is about 10c per gallon more expensive than premium during the winter and about the same amount cheaper in the rest of the year.

Most brands currently offering diesel automobile engines allow up to 15% biodiesel under warranty, but many of my friends run exclusively on biodiesel. And the 15% limit will change as the companies have more experience with biodiesel. They are just being cautious right now, since their experience with the fuel is limited. One of the reasons I like a diesel SUV is that the small sized engine has so much more torque than a gasoline engine -- and I need that for hauling and in the mountains. This is my fourth diesel car, and I can definitely see the improvement in diesel technology now, over the earlier ones. I'll get off my soapbox now...

I'm not sure why Honda is doing this?? With the exception of my play cars, everything else I own is a diesel. I've had them for years and love them. In our area, diesel fuel is a good .30 - .50 cents higher than the cheapest regular gas.
I don't understand that unless it has to do with the winter blend for diesels to keep the fuel from geling in colder climates

I'd like a Turbo diesel Ridgeline myself

When honda is ready, I'll be ready.
That sounds like a vote of confidence!

Bio-diesel is now much cheaper than petro-diesel, because the price of bio has not risen with the price of oil. Now that's yummy!
Hmmmm ? Now I am faced with a new trade off: Should I start eating more fried foods to help the supply of cheap bio-fuel? Then I may have a heart attack and die earlier, therefore lessening my time on earth to pollute?

Reminds me of the group that supports the concept of saving the planet by killing one's self.

I just got back from The Netherlands. Diesel there costs less than half of gasoline.

The process of refining diesel is actually more economical than cracking gasoline, since it is a heavier fraction.
