Default V6 clean diesel engines for Ridgeline, Pilot and

The new issue of Motor Trend reports that Honda will be marketing new V6 diesel engines for its light trucks. Honda claims that the new diesels are preferable to hybrids for its trucks and SUVs. And it has developed a 2.2 liter four cylinder diesel engine for automobiles that uses a NOx catalytic converter to meet the highest EPA Tier II bin 5 emission regs. It is clean enough for California without using the urea aftertreatment system that MB, VW, and Audi plan to use.

They have been selling the new engine in Europe for a few/couple years now. Honda likes to get it right before putting something in front of the US market... plus it's taken several years of high gas prices for the US to start thinking "gee I could drive a diesel and save on gas"

But most all of the gas stations in this part of the country, and on westward, have sulfur free diesel pumps.

Bio-diesel is now much cheaper than petro-diesel, because the price of bio has not risen with the price of oil. Now that's yummy!

I'm not sure why Honda is doing this?? With the exception of my play cars, everything else I own is a diesel. I've had them for years and love them. In our area, diesel fuel is a good .30 - .50 cents higher than the cheapest regular gas. If Honda follows the same pattern as other truck manufacturers, you will pay a premium for the diesel option. I am not sure you would ever recover the initial investment of the diesel as long as the diesel is this high. On the Ford truck I looked at, the diesel engine/ auto trans. added almost $ 8K. I can buy a lot of gas for that upcharge.

Further, with the new diesel emission standards, the mpg has dropped off significantly up to 40%. The best example is the Mecedes Sprinter. Those dropped from the low 30's to 18 mpg. Ouch!!! I'm glad I don't have a fleet of those. From what I have read, your warranty is voided by most manufacturers if you run biodiesel. Any other insights would be appreciated as I would love to own a Honda diesel. They already have a great Diesel back up generator that is very hard to get.

Same here, Just yesterday I was filling up my Ranger with regular @ $3.28/gal.
As i was checking out the other prices I noticed Premium was $3.53 and Diesel $3.79.

I don't see where there would be a savings. To make matters worse there isn't many service stations around here that have diesel.
