Trips You'd Like to Re/Take
#11
Since high school there have been five things I wanted to do before I died:
1. S.C.U.B.A. dive- I have since done that multiple times
2. Sky dive- missed my 'free' chance on my 40th birthday
3. Catch a Marlin- didn't get the chance while on the boat.
4. Ride in a helicopter
5. Drive 180 MPH for 1 minute legally- so I covered 3 miles.
I guess a trip to the Autobahn is in order.

We've done a lot of travelling, but will do more when +1 stops working in 17.5 months (do you think that I'm counting )
New:
Coast of Norway by car and boat ( See S thread )
Egypt
Turkey
South Africa (to show Kathy the "Big Five" )
Alaska and Inside Passage
Re-visit:
Italy....Umbria or Tuscany (probably June 2011 with friends in a villa)
Greek islands (small sailing ship may be the ticket)
New Zealand and stay at least a month....re-connecting with friend KiwiSue

After posting on the thread "Have you driven to visit S2000 Friends", I thought about my S2000 owner friend in New Zealand and did a SEARCH: found this thread and the above post
Reading my comments from 2010, I'm happy to see that we HAVE done all the "new" wish list trips, except for Alaska. That is happening for 3 weeks on July 25, 2017. We also DID the Tuscany trip in 2011, which still leaves the return trips to Greek Islands (last in 1991) and to New Zealand (last in 2008).
Maybe this will "tweak" some others with Travel Addiction to post other recent or upcoming trips ?

Liz and I went to China in 1987. We visited about 5 cities and the villages in Toisan that Liz's parents came from. I've heard that in the 30 years since we've been there the nation has changed and modernized. I've been told that we wouldn't recognize it. Being a Westerner I was treated like royalty, Liz was treated like an "Overseas Chinese" who came home.
Funny thing is that I'd love to go back, but Liz doesn't want to.

I've been posting in a thread about favorite places visited. I included a couple in Argentina (Iguascu Falls and Bariloche). Iguascu Falls is in the jungle of northern Argentina (on the border with Brazil) and (San Carlos de) Bariloche is toward the south of Argentina at the foot of the Andes Mountains. The falls are incredible, with many toucans and other birds flying around. Bariloche has many lakes - just gorgeous scenery with the lakes and the mountains. It is an international ski resort, also.
This started me thinking (again) about the places I'd like to visit. The list is really long, but one trip I'd like to take next is a river cruise from Paris to Normandy. It would combine history and art and good food/wine. The +1 and I both like the Impressionists. He has painted a couple of Monets already. This trip passes through Giverny, where Monet had a home and the gardens he used has his subject for many of his paintings. It also includes a day trip to the Normandy beaches, the famous ones from WWII. He has not been there. It would be a great trip, not to mention all the sights of Paris (he's not been there, either), which is a city I never get tired of visiting. The only issues are time and money.
I also want to do a sailing trip of the fjords of Norway, a rail trip through the Swiss/Italian Alps, Australia/New Zealand, the Far East, etc, etc, etc. What's on your wish list?

The trip I always repeat is to go Away Off Shore (to steal from Nathaniel Philbrick). They are only day trips to the open Atlantic, but I never tire of voyage or the sights I see.
After researching my continental journey, I learned that it would not be doable in the sort of car i would want to take. I also learned of the many dangers along the way once you drive south of the border. So that came off my list. Someday i may still do a North American trip to include Canada and Mexico.
As for the type of trips Ms P was most likely talking about in her original post, I would also like to do the river tours of Europe. I have looked into them and almost went this past fall, but we could not do it due to a number of reasons. I still get an e-mail every day from Viking River Tours.
If I can ever determine exactly where my father came from in Sweden I might go there for a visit. I probably need to subscribe to Ancestry.com to figure all that out.
As to traditional "trips" that I'd like to re-take, I'd probably go back to Israel as part of a trip to the Middle East if I ever felt the surrounding countries in the Middle East were safe enough to explore. But I'm pretty sure I won't live to see that day.
