Tires. Tires? oh no tires
#21
Two new rear tires were mounted on the S on Friday....along with other routine maintenance work. Since my Bridgestone RE960AS on the front are still good, I went with another set of these 960 Pole Position All Season tires. They gave me a couple small breaks on the pricing, so the price incl tax and all mounting was a little $300.
Yeah, I know the handling is not 10/10 but neither is my driving skill I checked my records and was amazed to find that I got 18,000 miles from the pair that was just replaced.
As John noted above, the AS tires give you confidence if you get caught on a trip and hit some snow/ice in an early fall or late spring storm. I was sure glad to have 'em when I hit a snow leaving Montana...
....and another snow squall heading towards Yellowstone during my roadtrip in LATE May 2008.

Michelin PS2 for late spring/summer/early fall and PA2 for late fall/early spring. Most inportant item is the tire patch on the road and the max wet weather capabilities. I can afford good tires but can not afford poor traction in the wet...

All Seasons tested @ Arctic Circle
My 960AS are in the middle of the pack....good enough for me. I'll cast a wider net when I need all 4 replaced in another 2-3 years....
I sort of agree with this writer...reviewing the 960AS on Tirerack:
