Hopefully, it'll be something that involves cigarettes, booze, and psychoactive drugs. Otherwise, why would I want to live a long time? I've got nothing left.
You're hopeless, I tell ya, hopeless.

Sex counts, right?
And you don't need special shoes.

I try every day to do my three miles but likely average only 4-5 days a week. My 85 year old father could be a poster boy for walking; He does 2 miles and misses at best a couple of days a year. Nothing will distract him from it. He pins it directly to his longevity and spry condition.

Where does he live John?

When my Mom retired she used to walk 4 miles/day. EVERY day unless it was raining or less than 20 degrees! I'll go out in the winter time from time to time, but it HAS to be much warmer than 20 degrees for me to be out there.

In good weather if we manage to walk 4-5 times per week, I feel good about that.

My wife has osteoporosis and takes Fosomax but walking has been very helpful and she has recently seen an increase in her bone density. I bike a lot but also walk with her. We live near a beautiful state park by the ocean and have a biking/walking trail right outside of our development. No excuses not to take advantage of this. I had painful plantar fascitis which limited my walking but had custom orthodics made and it went away completely. An over the counter gel insert can help a lot. I prefer the New Balance cross trainers for walking and working out in our home gym.

Lainey" My father lives in Sandusky, Ohio. He retired at age 73. In the winter or in foul weather he walks in an indoor mall. Exactly at 8 AM every day. I make him wear good shoes and have him rotate 3 pairs every day. I get to buy them for him - gladly.

I/we walk alot. To and from the Metro to go to work and locally, to restaurants and the farmers market. And to Georgetown, and downtown sometimes.

to Dad. My Mom stopped walking for exercise completely around age 75 or so, she's 86 now. She'd have various aches and if she could not walk her four miles, she wasn't going at all. I tried to suggest shorter, less difficult walks, but she wouldn't go that route (no pun intended). It's too bad as since she has stopped walking for exercise, she finds even walking short distances quite taxing.
