Yep, Rick and I figured out the different parts a few years ago....it's works OK for us. Most preventative checks for working parts are covered. Once they are non working, the story changes. How that story changes depends on the insurance plan. Rick's former Blue Cross plan did not charge him for "surgery" at the dermatologist's office. Any "procedure" I had done there was subject to deductible. Rick has had a couple doc visit under his Medicare and supplemental plans. We'll see if there is much out of pocket to be dished out. I have learned there are doctors who accept what Medicare and supplements pay with no balance billing, others do balance bill, but it can only be a certain percentage of a specific number. I don't know how that works as of yet. Our friend told us, to date, any balance bills he had were minimal. Then there are docs who don't even accept Medicare. Those are becoming more frequent as time goes by.

We have brokers in NY that will help navigate the mess and sift it down to a smaller list of health care options based on your wants/needs. I have an upcoming appointment with one that helped my brother a couple of years ago.

This is just for health insurance for Kathy & I....

OH... forgot.... one of the other reasons we picked our current plan, more of our doctors are in it.

That was a big plus for Kathy.

In Ohio under Obamacare, I think there are only two carriers....

We ended up going with a low deductable plan..... and with us making virtually nothing (SS only).... our rate is pretty low ($576). Under Cobra we were paying almost $1,200.

We have some Obamacare plans available in MA. The price varies depending on income. Are IRA withdrawals considered income in coming up with a cost of premium? IF I get out sooner rather than later, we may not have to dish out quite as much as COBRA if one of those plans was appealing. However, the plans I've seen, all seem to have the higher deductibles, and many are limited network even within the HMO that I currently have. Not a fan of that. As mentioned plans and prices do vary depending on where one lives. Is the $576.00 for both plans? If so a REAL bargain. If that's a single plan, still a bargain. I will look into my options in the next little bit.

Mass was the model for the Obama plans, we had it a few years before it got picked up nationally.

The $576 is for both of us......

Don't know if the IRA is considered income.

That it was. However, the health plans I've looked at on the Mass Connector, are not that inexpensive, and the benefits, just "so so." Mike, your pricing is a bargain. Good for you. Once my paycheck is a thing of the past, I hope to find something similar until Medicare can kick in.
