But I think that $170 each for hood lift struts is totally outrageous!
Although not one for alot of government regulation, I am not sure WHY we let automobile companies charge us what ever they f'ing want for parts. Ok, we all know the WHY, no competion.

Its known as a free society. You can always get alternate market parts that are in many cases better than OEM

We had a 92 Explorer as our beater and I was surprised at how that thing just went and went and went with minimal problems. Have you looked and seen how many old Explorers there are still running around? They're EVERYWHERE!

Can't say that about allot of 14-year-old Japanese or German cars. When was the last time, for example, you saw a Mazda MX-3 or a Honda Del Sol? I liked the Nissan NX but NEVER see those on the street anymore.

Ok, here's where everyone calls me out on my chronology and theories hee hee!! I'll just claim temporary insanity due to influenza.

Our 14 year old Lexus is running and looking amazingly well. I'd like to buy a new car for the wifey but she won't give up her Lexus.

Plenty of old Japanese cars on the road out here. Older German cars hold up pretty well too. I'm not so sure about the new ones though.

Maybe it's a Virginia thing but there are tons of older imports out in the PacNW.

hey Dianne,

Sorry you have the flu. No fun.

I can't say I notice the old Explorers on the road. You know how you notice the cars out there, that you have owned? I notice old Odyssey vans, and new ones. We had a Chevy S10 Blazer, POS, so I notice them too.

I'm not going to call you out on your chronology, but I will point out that the cars you cited (MX3, del Sol, and NX) TOGETHER sold probably a tenth of the Explorer's production. However, how many mid-90s Camrys and Accords do you see? I see a butt-ton.

There are tons of old and ancient Accords, and Civics around here. I don't notice Camrys though since I'm a Honda girl.

As a matter of fact, I see a number of del Sols every day. They look real good too.

I see lots of old Accords, Civics and Camrys as well. Once in a while I see old Ford and GM sedans, but not nearly as often as I see old Toyotas and Hondas.

Honda charges something like that for hatch lift struts for my CRX. Aftermarket for about $25 works just fine.

There really isn't an American car that interests me anymore. Been there, done that. Honda has had my heart for the last 10+ years with a '92 Accord EX 5-sp, '99 Prelude 5-sp, '01 Prelude SI, '04 "S", Sophie my '05 "S", and now our '06 Ridgeline. Nothing else interests me, especially American, and that's really a shame.
