Yes, text (SMS) messaging is trending down but that's because of the exponential growth of Apple's iMessage system that completely bypasses the carriers SMS tax. The carriers can't meter it since it's merely data and not specifically the SMS protocol. A fact barely alluded to in that article.

Our state has launched a program to stop and ticket drivers who talk and text. A $50. fine if you get caught, Big deal. We should enact fines like New York. $300 bucks and 3 points on the first offense and it goes up from there. You might think twice if you have to pony up 300 bucks and your monthly insurance payments increase. I see these idiots everyday. And of course auto manufacturers just add to the distractions with their latest greatest distractions.

Yes, definitely need more laws. We have to be able to legislate common sense into people, can't we?
