Clue: If you're biting it, you're out of the VSA running. If you're flapping it, maybe there's a chance

Unless your 401-k is invested solely in company stock or some mutual funds that you don't like, you might consider KEEPING the 401-k with your company (I think most companies allow that....strange as it may sound). When I left my old company in mid 2004, I left the 401-k there (Vangurd funds).

Not only has it grown nicely, but the old company has continued to kick in more $$ every year! Apparently, they have to make the same % contribution to all accounts....whether or not there has been an employee contribution

In any event, there is no rush b/c you can have the funds directly transferred AT ANY TIME to an IRA, etc. If your 'financial advisor' works on commi$$ion (rather than fee-based), she may have a $elf-interest in getting you to tran$fer to a load-mutual fund IRA for which she is an agent
Sure, they would prefer to have the entire amount in their accounts, but then, that's what I'm paying them for. I was never one to pay much attention to allocation of funds and maintaining a divirsified portfolio - that's what I pay them for. I'll look into the company contributions though - it may swing the decision one way or another. Besides, we decided today that the 401K is the last worry we have. Medical first, then management of the severance pay & of course, how best to pay for the new Honda Fit in about 2 months....

Works for some in certain circumstances.
It goes without saying, billing and not delivering is the worst thing you can do. But if you deliver as promised, you shouldn't have a problem with the billing, and as I said, oftentimes (not always but often) the client has more respect for the service if they pay more.

Jonas, you are mature and you have all the answers to what works best for you within you..... just listen to yourself rather than others when it comes to future job plans. We have to make compromises from time to time but don't do it in areas that REALLY matter. Hold to your beliefs and things will work out just fine. Just don't wear the red hat to the first job interview.

Funny, I spoke with an old coworker yesterday. He and I worked together on a couple projects when we were both consultants with Compuware. The company that he currently works for just received my resume through a headhunter, and I called him to ask about the place. He told me that it's highly technical, with top notch developers, and a very relaxed, college-like atmosphere - some guys have the occasional beer at work! As long as you produce, they are pretty relaxed about the rest. Maybe I will wear the hat to the interview!

You have to change your avatar.

Put out some feelers, but relax and enjoy the summer, Jonas. Why not?

^That sounds promising, Jonas. I know you were unhappy with the old job situation, after hearing you talking about it on Captain Bill's cruise, so this may be the silver lining to the cloud.
