In "Spring Little Cobra" what cars were waiting for him at the track?

Ouch... Corvettes and Jags? (probably should have been ferraris)

I took my Cobra down to the track
Hitched to the back of my Cadillac
Everyone there was a waitin for me
There were plenty of Sting Rays and XK-Es.

Very good!!!

Which group did "Little GTO"?

Jan and Dean?

Nope. Ronnie and the Daytonas. I think the song was actually written by the advertising department of Pontiac.

Little GTO you're really lookin fine,
Three deuces and a four speed
And a 289
Listen to her jackin up now
Listen to her whine
When I turn it on
Wind it up
Pour it out
GTO

In "Little Honda" what does it climb the hills like?

Damn, I know almost that whole sond "Gonna turn on my light so I can drive my Honda at night" I dunno, a dream?

It climbs the hills like a Matchless
Cause my Honda's built really light

Who did "Mustang Sally"
Wilson Pickett. To this day every girl in a Mustang commercial is referred to as "Sally"

Yeah, what the heck is a Matchless? That was something I always meant to look up.

Sorry i skipped the Mustang Sally question.

The GTO had a 389, and so did the song.

Sally is going to be very, very insulted.

Sorry, it was a 389. Hit the wrong key. It's late and I'm going to sleep.

More music tomorrow.

Rob, you come up with good threads. Nothing like music to remind us of where and how we grew up. At least for me, it instantly takes me back even more than cars.

The first song that comes to mind is "In the Still of the Nite" by the Five Satins on Ember. But it's near impossible for me to pick one or ten, as I love so many of them, especially the doowop sound. They never grow old and my wife and I still love to dance to them -- especially a good fast song like "Proud Mary".

Another song that instantly comes to mind is "Earth Angle" by the Penguins. Or, "Since I Don't Have You" and "This I Swear" by The Skyliners, a great group from the South Hills section of Pittsburgh. Or, Jack Scott's "True Love". Or, just about anything The Flamingo's did like "Goodnight Sweetheart" or "I Only Have Eyes For You". Lots of great back-seat music in those days!

On the subject of cars songs - here's one no mentioned: "Buick 59" by The Medallions, an R&B group.

BTW, Rob, just so you know there's some other 45 nuts out here - the flip side of "Hurt" was "I Appologize" on Liberty records!

And, what about Jackie Wilson and "We Have Love".

OK, I got one for ya, who sang "Mother-In-Law"?

Dave

Thats easy. Ernie K. Doe. He died within the last few years. After Mother-In-Law he hit the skids, but a good marriage to a good woman brought him back. He owned the Mother-In-Law lounge in (I think) New Orleans.

By the way, one of my very favorite doowops (I love all that you mentioned) is "Once in a While" by the Chimes. I think the song had been popular in the 30s but the Chimes remake was big in the 50s. For some reason, it never seems to get too much attention when people speak of DooWop oldies. Another is "Gloria" by the Cadillacs.

Car songs, do you remember who did "Rocket 88" I can't remember the group.
