Default "Teen Angel", "Tell Laura I Love Her" and other old songs.

Yesterday in a thread titled "A Vintage Thought for the 60s" the conversation wound around to the song "Teen Angel". The challenge was to remember all of the words. We, of course rose to the occasion, and posted below, for your enjoyment are all of the words. In any event, the discussion brought back some old Rock 'n Roll memories.

So, which were your favorite songs? Which songs did you hate the most ("Hey Paula", Paul & Paula)? What else do you remember from the 50s, 60s and 70s music. Feel free to write anything, even the lyrics. Have fun.

And now for your reading pleasure, the words to "Teen Angel" as sung by Mark Dinning (I think).

That fatefull night
The car was stalled
Upon the railroad tracks
I pulled you out
And we were safe
But you went running back

Teen angel
Can you hear me
Teen angel
Can you see me
Are you somewhere up above
And am I still your own true love.

What was it you
Were looking for
That took your
Life that night
They said they found
My high school ring
Clutched in your fingers tight.

Teen angel
Can you hear me
Teen angel
Can you see me
Are you somewhere up above
And am I still your own true love.

Just sweet sixteen
And now you're gone
They've taken you away
I'll never kiss your lips again
They've buried you today.

Teen angel
Can you hear me
Teen angel
Can you see me
Are you somewhere up above
And am I still your own true love.

My two sad contributions:
Donna by Richie Valens
Oh Donna, oh Donna, oh Donna, oh Donna
I had girl, Donna was her name
Since she left me, I've never been the same
'Cause I love my girl, Donna where can you be
Where can you be
Now that you're gone, I'm left all alone
All by myself, to wonder and groan
'Cause I love my girl, Donna where can you be
Where can you be
Well darling now that you're gone
I don't know what I'll do
Oh time had all my love, for you
I had a girl, Donna was her name
Since she left me, I've never been the same
'Cause I love my girl, Donna oh where can you be
Where can you be
Oh Donna, oh Donna, oh Donna, oh Donna
and

IT'S MY PARTY
Lesley Gore

Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone
Judy left the same time
Why was he holding her hand
When he's supposed to be mine

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Playin' my records, keep dancin' all night
Leave me alone for a while
'Till Johnny's dancin' with me
I've got no reason to smile

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Judy and Johnny just walked through the door
Like a queen with her king
Oh what a birthday surprise
Judy's wearin' his ring

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

"You Belong to Me" The Duprees (originally recorded by Jo Stafford)

See the pyramids along the Nile,
Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle,
Just remember darling all the while,
You belong to me.

I'll be so alone without you,
Maybe you'll be lonesome too,
And blue.

See the marketplace in old Algiers
Send me photographs and sovenirs,
Just remember when a dream appears,
You belong to me.

I'll be so alone without you,
Maybe you'll be lonesome too,
And blue.

Fly the ocean in a silver plane,
See the jungle when it's wet with rain,
Just remember til you're home again,
You belong to me.

Do you really remember (almost ) all of the words without looking them up somewhere?

I'll offer a song or two, but without the words

"Poetry in Motion" (who knows the singer...Bobby Vinton? Probably not...)

I had a crush on a neighbor girl named Diane who was a school year ahead of me, and this always (still ) reminds me of that phase. I found out that her birthday was 11/27...only 3 months older than me....and sent her a secret birthday card once or twice. We used to car pool together and sit next to each other is the back seat of her father's 59 Plymouth wagon...oh, the hormones were flowing. But she was pretty and popular, while I was chubby and not Now she lives near Pittsburgh and is divorced...probably fat and ugly...but I might still like to meet her again

Rob, this should be a great thread. I just retrieved my remaining collection of 45's (about 30), so I can help keep this one going for awhile. Now, if I just had a turntable that worked....

Poetry in Motion

Poetry in Motion
See her move and sway
A ship out on the ocean
Could never look that way.

I love every movement
Theres nothing I would change
She doesn't need improvement
She's much too nice to rearrange.

I don't remember anymore.

What Bobby Rydell songs do you remember? He lives nearby in Penn Valley and is often sighted in our local American Family foodstore, which is itself lost in the 60's

Of course, Philly is a wealth of early Rock n Roll memorabilia from Chubby Checker to Dick Clark's "American Bandstand"

OK- 45 #1- "I Just Called to Say I Love You", by Stevie Wonder (vocal version on one side, instrumental on the other). Rob will probably know most of the words.....

I seem to remember Bobby Rydell doing "Wild One"

Actually, the Phildelphia sound is best remembered by songs like "South Street", and "Don't Hang Up", both by the Orlons. Great sound. Do you remember any more?
