I always thought that a "carol" is a religious song -- a Christmas carol would always mention Christ, God, Angels, or something else Biblical. Anything else is just a Christmas song. Do others make this distinction?

OTOH, when carols are sung in our CHURCH during Advent and Christmas Eve, these selections are always religious....appropriately Just my .02 but it doesn't bother me.

While not religious, Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" has long been a favorite at Christmas time.
Plenty of other artists have recorded it over the years.
