Do you have a setting that can "trash" the stuff automatically after "X" days?
I set mine to seven, and glance at the junk folder now and again, just in case something isn't really "junk."

And how many people actually invest in the penny stocks they tout or buy the "male organ" enhancing creams or would actually buy RX drugs through these sources? How can it be worthwhile for them to continue to send this junk. Or if someone actually is buying into these programs, I'd like to know who --- I could think of something worthless to sell them!

I probably get about 100 spam e-mails a day both at home and at work. I find that Microsoft Office Outlook 2007's junk filter works reasonably well. Not perfect, but pretty good.
I find that spam goes in cycles. Something becomes hot and I get an awful lot of e-mails about it. Often I'll get exactly the same e-mail from 4 or 5 different addresses at the same time. When that item dies and another one becomes hot the cycle repeats itself.
The funny spam e-mails that I'm getting lately are from someone pretending to be citizens bank. The first batch, a few weeks ago, were fraudulent e-mails warning me to take action to register my account. This week I'm getting a lot of fraudulent e-mails warning me to take action to protect myself from the fraudulent actions of the first set of e-mails.
I get a lot of Canadian medicines, penny stocks, and Hot Russian Girls Who want to Meet You. I don't get any Hot Asian Chics anymore or too many Viagra e-mails.
I think you'll find that many websites, perhaps even S2KI, think nothing of selling e-mail addresses and of allowing cookies to be put on your computer.

I read the other day that spam increases near the end of the year. That could be a contributor.
We just got a new home email address in March and so far (knock on wood) we only get one or two a week. Except our new ISP could be filtering out the worst of the bunch. Now at work, I am buried.....

I understand the economies of scale and not needing to attract many customers from their massive mailings -- I just don't understand how they get even one sale from this trash. Who would buy this stuff or invest based upon an e-mail from someone they've never heard of? Are there really that many stupid people who can operate a computer?

One of the deTomaso guys has a spam filter that will only let an e-mail through if he has entered your e-mail address as an approved sender. Even if you are on the approved list, it will not let anything through that is addressed to more than one recipient.
