Some compelling pictures of a dead 6 flags
Someone sent me this. I thought I'd share. It's a phototour of the abandoned 6 flags in New Orleans. What a place to take pictures.

I often drive by this scene on I-10, the limited access highway shown in the aerial shot. Even from a distance it is a haunting reminder of the big storm. Katrina's fatal assault on the park may have been euthanasia of a sort. The park never did well. Opened as "Jazzland", the original park was not profitable and was eventually sold to Six Flags. Even after a major renovation and upgrade, attendance at the park was low. It's a bad location, too far from Mississippi to attract tourists visiting our coast, it was in a section of New Orleans that scared away a lot of local folks. Most people who lived with 10 miles of the park couldn't afford the admission.

Tof's comment reminded me of the story about Bill Marriott Sr. who sat on a curb at various locations around the Washington DC Metro area with a hand held counter (like the one's that the greeters at Costco use to count how many people enter the store)to determine the drive by traffic to decide where to open his first Hot Shoppes location.
If people within ten miles of the park could not afford the admission what made management think that people would want to drive through those neighborhoods to get there?

Another major corporation received millions in insurance moneys, but did not put then to use. I was there about 7-8 years ago with family and friends and had a great time. The place was beautiful and well cared for and now when so many people could be employed to rebuild this park, it sets there with nothing being done. I do not intend to go to another 6 Flags park again, and will be selling my stock in 6 Flags. It is not a cooperation that I want to deal with.
