I still enjoy every drive in mine very much even after 21 years. My tire situation isn’t the greatest currently, gets squirrelly under power, so I haven’t been getting on it much but my point is even just cruising out of Vtec I enjoy it.
What do you miss, Jerry? I love the way it fits me and how it feels in turns. If I didn't have turns to make it would be boring unless the scenery was gorgeous. Oh, and it's gutless at elevation but I've learned to rev it high if I want to pass someone. I was nervous to do it but I drove it on Old Fall River Road In RMNP, a dirt one-way road that is only open for a few months per year. It was a blast as I did it late in the day, starting at almost 4 PM, I didn't have and slowpokes and very few other cars.
What do I miss,
Well for starters, you drove the S2000. The driver engagement level is very high. My AMG GT S is like the S2000 on performance enhancing steroids. It has more of everything.
The AMG will blow the doors off the S2000 in almost every respect but that might be part of the point.
To get that out into silly space you had to squeeze the S2000 a little, but the performance was there.
You could take it to the edge and hold it there. If you asked it, it would do it.
It was stiletto like and I'm not talking about heels. It was deft and agile where the GT S is more towards the broadsword.
And of course the S2000 was a true manual transmission. The GT S has a manual mode for the DCT but it still executes the actual shifts.
Perhaps most importantly I can get the sensation of 9/10ths, feathering 10/10ths with the S2000 on public roads.
The only place I can ever even approach that sensation with the GT S is on a closed track.
7/10ths or 8/10ths on public roads is obscenely, throw-your-fat-ass-in-jail, fast.
Mistakes are those speeds aren't forgiven lightly by the laws of physics either.

Hi Carmen! The photo of me standing next to you was my first S2000 meet outside of California. Was that 2004? So twenty years later, many of us still keep in touch via Vintage. My life changed with the group and my 2001 S2000. I get so much help asking questions here and love to read what people are doing. Some I've never met, and some (Rob), only once but my PC has the S2000 Vintage Owners tab second in line, behind Yahoo email, and before the wundeground weather tab. Even if I don't post I'm always here. I think my last Vintage Meet was in 2009(?). I still go on NSX drives but never enjoy them as much as I did our Vintage meets.
I'm on my third S2000 and have a 2005 and a 2017 NSX, but I need an S2000. It doesn't get driven much either but I love to drive it top-down into Rocky Mountain National Park, just 36 miles from my house in Loveland, Colorado.
What do you like to drive now? Your daughter must be getting close to 20 years-old. How's life treating you?

^March 2018. The 2007 S2000 is now in Colorado but the NSX and Crosstour are still in California.
^September 2023 in Loveland, CO. I enjoy using my zero-turn Hustler mower even though it jars my guts.
^June 2022. 2017 NSX in Rocky Mountain National Park. I just popped up there for fun.

I totally believe you, Dave. Jim used to beg me to drive his 72 vette but I totally hated it. Yes, it drove nicely and shifted nicely but I just never enjoyed muscle cars. The feeling of engagement and using skill to heave power from those little sports cars is amazing. I miss my s2000 every single day.
