Default Soft top cover thingy?

I just read some stuff in the forums about getting tears/ worn spots in the fabric of the tops. It sounds like a mini epidemic! I immediately went out to check the canvass on "Precious". No holes but definitely wear spots are beginning. I can see adding extra protective material between the frame and fabric but what else can one do? I have 22,500 miles on the S and rarely drive it with the top up. These cars come with a boot cover (Soft top cover thingy) which I don't have. Most pictures,if not all, that I see of "S"s do not have any cover. I take it the OEM cover does not fit in the trunk when not in use, right? I would like to cover the top when it is down to protect it from sunlight and road grime. has anyone have or has had made a soft cover that can fold up into a small bundle yet looks good when covering the top?

You can fold the cover so that it will fit into the trunk, but I've managed to roll it up into a fairly small bundle that fits very easily. You have to have a strap to hold it tightly wrapped, though.

It's not really easy to put on, though it gets easier the more times you do it. It really improves the looks of the car, but due to the hassle of putting it on/taking it off, plus the storage problem, most people don't bother. I only use it when I want the car to look its best, like at a show or something.

I don't even know where mine is, but the last time I used it, I broke a nail. It was then banished.

It went on the day I picked up the car - and has been off ever since for all the reasons cited above, sans broken nail (ouch!)

Unless you are raising and lowering your top a lot you don't have to worry about the wear holes. There will be some slight indent on the material on almost every car but you are not going to wear through it from your description.

Forget the cover. It's a joke. It takes up way too much space in the trunk to carry there. If you do put it on, which is a pain to do, then you are at the mercy of the elements (sun or rain) until you stop the car, get out, remove it, store it and then get back in to raise the top. The only thing that takes longer is raising an old British car top. I venture to say 99% of the people don't use it after a couple tries and when they do it's just for photo to hide the baby buggy look.

Mine has been on the shelf for 8 years.

Use it ocassionally but only when I know it is not going to rain. I put it in a show once and used it then. It is a pain to take on and off and store.
