^ Good luck, Jonas! Yesterday, I ended up driving the S with a friend out past Warrenton to pick raspberries. About 50 miles each way. It was fun. Stopped at an old diner for a late lunch. Had a chocolate milkshake (a real one) that was to die for. Then went out for drinks with a couple of girlfriends last night. Today it's maybe wash the car and relax. Tomorrow not sure yet. Wingin' it...

Trying to get caught up with house work, mostly. Still have the camping gear out - need to wash the tent today and get everythig else clean and dry for storage.

Also, I'm preparing the house for an invalid for a day or 2 this week - I have surgery on my right knee for a torn meniscus this Tuesday at about 2pm. I need to set up the computer area to be comfortable for working there on Wednesday.

Good luck with the surgery, Jonas.

How long will you be off your feet?

As for this weekend, my wife's sister is in town from Virginia till Tuesday, and we'll have lots of family for dinner on Sunday!

No, that will be for later in the week, after I'm off the prescribed painkillers (as opposed to the Dortmunder painkillers).

Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone!

The doctor said to go ahead and put as much weight on it as it will handle without pain the next day, and that I could head in to work the next day if I really wanted to (since I have a desk job). However, since I can log into the company network from home, and can work from there, I'll just take it easy with my leg up and the ice and Dort.... I mean the Percocet within easy reach. I expect to go back to work Thursday, as long as I can get a ride (driving's out of the question until at least the weekend).

Sunday, 2:30 P.M.

In about 45 minutes we're going to visit my father. He's finally made it home, after 3 months of being in the hospital and nursing homes.

Last week his blood test was negative for infection. More importantly, the surgeons probe into his leg bone also tested negative for infection. The doctors gave him the go ahead to have the surgery to replace his knee. He's looking forward to that.

Unfortunately, the orthopedic surgeon cannot schedule his operation until October 1. Neither he nor my mother wanted him to stay in the nursing home until then so they hired around the clock aides and my father was brought home.

This is very good. I can hear it in his voice. He is in much better spirits and that is a big part of the healing process. My mother is relieved. For now the running is over. The drive to the nursing home was only 8 miles for her, but she's 82 years old and the running wore her out. Now at least until the operation, she doesn't have to run so much. This is all very good news.

So, in a little while we're on our way. Not a bad way to spend part of the weekend.
