exactly.

also we do not have an alarm outside of those cameras. We used to have them (Brinks, etc) and, frankly, I found them to be more of a hassle than anything else and they really didn't knock anything off my insurance either.

I used a nanny cam so I could watch +1 when he was ill and it came in quite handy when I had so many nurses, therapists, etc. in and out. I don't feel the need to have inside cameras but I really do like the idea of being able to see what's happening outside. I use timers on a few lights in the house and have automatic nightlights in bathrooms, kitchen and stairways. I have a monitored security system that alarms and calls police if windows or doors are breached.

All of my cameras are outside except the one inside the garage. I mean come on, we all know there are times when we just want to look at the S.

You are not alone. I don’t want or need a smart home. Besides, electronic stuff hates me.

USAA gave a significant discount for a monitored alarm system that included smoke/heat fire detection. It essentially pays for the ADT monitoring. I knew that when we built the house so everything is up to par and included everything they wanted and then some. State of the art at the time: 1987. I have since upgraded and installed myself new Honeywell panels that have a nice tone and easy to read display. There are also "panic" buttons to call police or fire/medical assistance easily on pads by the doors and inside the master bedroom. No need to fumble a smartphone. You can set it to "chirp" when a door is opened so you know when someone is coming or going. (or the dogs)

ADT has not raised the rates for a long time. We had them install (no charge) a wireless (cell phone) calling box as we disconnected our landline. The guy remarked he has never seen such a low rate. It is about $20/month.

Besides, if we evacuate for a wildfire and you get a mobile phone notification that the fire detection system has been activated, you know your house is toast!

That was a great idea, and I wish we had thought of that when my father was ill. The home care workers who came to our home to assist my father robbed us blind unfortunately. My father seen it all happening but he could not communicate the info to us, and we never suspected that trusted care workers would ever do such a thing. It was a very eye-opening experience.

I was robbed by one of my cleaning ladies once. She was stupid!! She took a blank check but left the carbon copy in the checkbook. We filed a police report and they caught her the next day (my neighbor’s son was the chief detective). They caught her with several checks from different places she cleaned and we all pressed charges. I am sure she took some of my late wife’s jewelry but we could prove it.
