Default Smart Dog?

The weirdest thing happened today. Jim misplaced his glasses and went all over the house looking for them. Finally he went downstairs to the den looking, still couldn't find the things and was totally befuddled. BB (our little maltese dog) was sitting on the couch (as usual) and Jim said, BB, do you know where my glasses are? She hopped off the couch and went underneath the side table . . . where Jim's glasses had fallen. Guess we'd better be careful what we say in front of her from now on. Is that weird or what?

Val, your post gave me an idea. Last night as we were preparing for bed, my +1 realized she had lost one of her favorite earrings. She still hadn't found it when I got home a bit ago. So I got the one she still had, and showed it to my german shepherd, Xylie. I even let her smell it. Then I said to her, "where is it- go find it". She tore out of the room and was gone less than a minute when she came back, with guess what in her mouth.......

her tennis ball.

You got me on that one, Morris. I thought for sure you were going to say the missing ear ring. I'm still about BB. I know she's intuitive about many things, but Jim and I both were amazed about the glasses. She knows loads of words and responds appropriately to them, but this one was just eerie. She's still very obstinate about doing things HER way, but we love her. She's a very good little lapdog. I'm amazed at how much television she watches and at how angry she gets when I turn it off. Often I just leave it on so she can watch it while I'm away. Its better than dealing with her barking at me in anger. We have certain rules about parts of the house that she's not allowed to enter. We forbid her from crossing the threshold of the stairway into the living room and she'll lay on the top step and patiently wait until we tell her she can come up or until we head back down. She's not allowed in the exercise room (fear that she'll get hurt) and she'll sit or lay quietly outside the open door until we come out. Otherwise she just lays on the couch that we let her use. She is not allowed on the leather couch and she never even attempts to get on it. She's a funny little thing and I her very much.

my dog is retarded. period.
he's mastered the important things like no crapping in the house but beyond that, not much.

Never underestimate the importance of not "crapping" in the house.

When we got Gabe home the kids tried to play ball with him.
They tossed him a tennis ball. Hit him square between the eyes
