I held Zoro today when he was euthanized at 12:30PM. I went into it okay, but naturally, I was sobbing my head off in the car, once I got out of the vet's. Last night, he slept curled up against my neck, purring, as he loved to do. This morning he was lost and not navigating well, so I took him to the water bowl, and took him to the cat box. He tried to go in the box but not a thing came out. I figured that was a sure sign it was time to end his suffering.
A few last photos...
^July 15, 2013. Zoro's last evening.
^July 16, 2013. My last photo with my lover-boy, Zoro. I was smiling through my tears. I found it so odd that the painting in the room was a Siamese cat.
^July 16, 2013. Minutes before he died, before the medication was put into his leg.

The evening pic is really nice. A good one to remember him by.

So sorry for your loss Patty.
I've never been a cat person but I feel your loss with every dog I've lost or ever had to put down.I'm glad you could be there at the end. I couldn't bear to be with Precious Pearl last June at the end.

^I agree, Deb. I like that he's "looking" up, too. He didn't normally do that. The fact is he was 100% blind for years so he couldn't "look" up.
^Raymo, I think it's even harder with dogs. They are more dependent on us for everything and attach to us with stronger bonds.
When my first German Shepherd, Kyras, died, it hurt like I had a knife through my heart, and I would cry for a decade later, just thinking about him. As a matter of fact, I told Zoro just as he was getting the medication, "Go see Kyras." They were great friends. Kyras died in 1999, but Zoro used to curl up with him for the three years their lives overlapped.
